You trade two of your top defensive players away and get no defensive players back. No...thats a horrid trade. Thabo was one of the top defneders for his position in the NBA...this trade destroys all depth at the wing...just no.

How do you guys feel about this trade?

Hawks Out: Jeff Teague, #15

Hawks In: Carl Landry, #6, Nik Stauskas

We cash in on Teagues value while its at his highest and draft Willie Cauley-Stein at #6 for or present/future rim protector. Could become DeAndre Jordan 2.0

Kings get an all star PG to help win now with Karl at the helm. They get to unload a bad contract in Landry at the price of Stauskas.

Hawks turn #15 into last years #8 (Stauskas).

I know that Teague is a valuable piece, but if we want to have a shot to return to the ECF next season we'll need Teague. I'm just not convinced by Dennis. He's a year away IMO. Trade Teague next offseason or resign him and trade Dennis.

I get why people are skeptical of Dennis...but there are other PGs. They were bandied about like crazy at the trade deadline. We can replace Teague, because in our system they don't have to be dominant. But our best shot at gaining top perimeter talent is to flip Teague and other assets for a very good young wing.

Show me a trade where we get better on the wing by so much it offsets losing one if the best point guards in the NBA.

Staying the course will not win us a title.

Especially not when MIA and Indy will be back and stronger next season. And CLE will be even more experienced for next year's playoffs.

Moving JT0 is the single best avenue for LONG TERM improvement. Gain a valuable asset. Gain cap space.

Standing pat while every other team in the East attempts to improve is a surefire way to becoming a treadmill team once again.

^The point is, we don't improve if we trade Teague. Who are this pgs that you are sure that we can get who will give us Teague's production?

Many are willing to trade Teague for the #6 pick. Not me. I'd love to have a WCS on our team, but the center position is one that we can potentially sign someone this offseason. There aren't many pgs out there.

I disagree.

Make no mistake. LeBron just embarrassed the single greatest team in Atlanta Hawks history with a motley crew of castoffs and scrubs.

I believe JT0 is the single best avenue TO drastically improve the roster overall.

By trading Jeff, we could possibly get a top talent in the draft and still have $8 million additionally to get more help in free agency.

This isn't about just improving next year's roster. It's about adding talent to the franchise for years to come. If we can't get that talent in the middle of the draft. If we can't get that talent in Free Agency. if we aren't even in the same stratosphere as elite teams with Teague, why cling so fearfully to him? You afraid we might not be good enough to get swept by a healthy Cavaliers team next May?

Hoping for massive improvement through middling draft picks and HUGE Free Agent signings has proven fruitless.

So losing in the eastern conference finals with 3 major parts of your team injured, a game 1-3 where you should have won(you know...the games where Teague carried us) means we aren't in the stratosphere with elite teams now?

We have been in this system 2 years. First year was 8 seed...with minor upgrades we won 60 and made it to the ECF. It's INSANE to say trade one of the best point guards in the NBA because CLEARLY he can't lead us there.

Lets call it what it is...with a competent backup point guard we would still be in this series. With a healthy Milsap, we are still in this series. Give us all our pieces and its a completely different series.

We avg 85 ppg in one of the most lopsided EC Finals in recent history...and you think a single backup keeps us in it?

:noway:

We were dominated on the boards...offensively and defensively. Lesser talented big men dominated our backups and and more than handled our starters. And all that is Dennis Schroeder's fault?

And Teague is better than Westbrook?

And we're even in the same stratosphere as CLE?

Just wow....

CLE has been in their system for a few months, lost their starting PG and they still destroyed us.

We are not a backup player away. LeBron James hasn't lost a series in the East in 5 years...but backup PGs and Jeff Teague can top that? Seriously?

NOTE: Teague is not a top PG. Please don't mention him in the same league as CP3, Curry et al. He's a good player...nothing more.

So what you are saying is that Dennis shooting 2-10, playing Bazemore instead if Thabo, and Paul Millsap shooting 30% makes no difference in game 1 or 3? That's how this works now?

And where in the name of all that is holy did I say anything about Westbrook?

You want us to be losers for SOME REASON. I can't figure it out for the life of me why you have been wanting us to pattern the 76ers for the past few years. As a team, we are trending up. It's so ridiculously insane to go to the ECF in year two of your system and start envoking the team success with Marvin Williams and Josh Smith as a reason to turn the page on this team now. That makes no sense.

This loser mentality some display around here is amazing. We did not step up to cover for all the injuries...that is a problem. But to pretend injuries played no roll in how this ended is so mind numbing, I don't know what to say. You watched our front court dominate washingtons, we out rebounded New Jersey on the offensive glass a d were out rebounded by TWO against the Wizards with most of their offensive boards coming from their backup 3...who was that backup 3 we have that is very good on the defensive glass again?

Yes Tristan Thompson had his way with us on the glass. Of only we had a front court like the Bulls that wouldn't have happened.....or maybe Tristan Thompson is really good at getting offensive rebounds.

I am so tired of excuses.

You're missing one somewhat major reason we lost every game in this series:

LeBron James

Coach Bud said it best:
“Obviously we weren’t good enough,” coach Mike Budenholzer said when asked if his team wasn’t prepared for the moment. “We didn’t get it done in the Eastern Conference finals, but I don’t think it was the moment, per se.”

There are always excuses for failure. NO MORE EXCUSES.

Improve the team. Period.

Im sorry, what part of going from 38 wins and a first round exist to a 60 win year and he conference finals not a improvement.

And excuses? Looking at our failings as a team is an excuse? Or is it looking at where we need to improve? And Dennis Schroder as atrocious as was our bench play. But Dennis was especially horrid with leading the team in usage while shooting 33% and taking the 5th most shots despite 8 guys playing more minutes. To pretend that has NOTHING to do with losing two close games is the real excuse making. He got benched for Shelvin Mack for gods sake. The guy who was a big part of why we won 60 games, got benched for Shelvin Mack.

One of your ways to "improve" the team is to make him the starter and ship off the guy that played the best for us. That's not looking for improvement. That's just being so gungho about Dennis starting that all logic is being thrown to the side.

:o

We looked bad the entire playoffs. Every criticism levied against us all year came to fruition. History says we finally graced a Conference Final. But those who watched objectively know: we had the easiest route in a weakened conference after ducking CHI in the final regular season game.

If John Wall doesn't fracture his hand in Round 2...I don't see any chance this Hawks team had of beating them. As it stands, it took miracle end of game occurrences and Instant Replay to get past a team everyone here believes is inferior.

And when we finally played a team considered truly elite...we got smacked around like the JV team every doubter accused us of being.

And yes, blaming our entire playoff struggles on a backup guard above all else, is an excuse to maintain the status quo.

Bottom Line: LeBron James and 4 scrubs >>>>> than anything we are able to put on the floor. LBJ hasn't lost a single EC playoff series in 5 years. It'll take serious upgrades to de-rail that train.

1: Did we play bad the entire playoffs now? I'm not making excuses...what we failed at was stepping up when injured which is exactly what the Cavs did. But pretend our jump shooting Center injuring his shooting hand, and Milsap being seriously hurt had NOTHING to do with our performances is a reach...and you have to agree because you are trying to say Wall being injured is why the Wizards lost. So injuries are excuses...unless they help your point?.

2. If WA had played we win in 5. I pointed this out, you wanted to doubt me on that but miraculously we were able to hold them to 41-36-37% shooting when wall played and not so much when he didn't. It's almost like one guy dominating the ball without a dominating offensive game played right into our defensive scheme, huh?

3. We had two games we got beaten badly and two games that were single possession with less than 30 seconds to go...yeah...totally can't wonder what would have happened if Schroder wasn't the worse player on the court for either team or if Korver, Carroll or Milsap were healthy.

What got "exposed" was our lack of depth. Which we need to remedy in the offseason and I believe we will.

But its just plain dumb to talk about the last 5 years when we are in the first year of this state with all its major pieces in place for most of the year. Like I said, your agenda is clouding fact on this.

I am not lumping EVERYTHING on Schroder but he is the chief reason for the humongous falloff from the starting unit to the backups. And he will get better. I just take issue with you, for the second year in a row, pretending that its the smart move to start him. 60 wins, ECF, team trending towards a title...you would rather have Schroder, Lou Williams, Bebe Nogiera and...jameer nelson/devin Harris out there leading us to a 45 win season and a first round exit...because that makes us better somehow. I just dont get that.

I'm sorry, but Tristan Thompson, JR Smith, Timofey Mozgov, iman Shumpert, and Matthew "You da real MVP" Dellaledova are not scrubs. I agree with you on the need to change some things, though.

Let's just say the narrative has changed greatly in three months. Back in November, JR and Iman were expendables no one wanted. In fact CLE HAD to take JR just to get Iman. Phil valued expiring contracts over them, and even then not many teams were falling over themselves to acquire them. Delladova was a nobody in the NBA. Playing beside the Best player on the planet has certainly helped their stock.

We're going in circles. I'll simply say this, time will tell. Maybe Teague is on the verge of an unbelievable, top season and can lead us through the best player alive moving forward.

But Lebron James has dominated the EC Playoffs every year. If you honestly believe JEff Teague is capable of getting us past Lebron...and Kyrie in the coming years. We'll see. I'll stick a pin in it and come back. But if two years from now, Teague is still avg 17 ppg & 7 assists and we haven't sniffed the NBA Finals....I simply ask for no excuses. No caveats.

Beyond that, let's remember this year's squad was never intended to be the final product. It's why Ferry was still attempting to woo Monroe, Pau and Luol last summer. This year, we greatly over achieved. But there were obvious flaws.

I sure hope Bud has the chutzpah to be aggressive in acquiring talent this summer. Simply Remaining the course will see diminishing returns next season now that the entire league has seen our weaknesses exploited.

PS yes, we were underwhelming the entire playoffs

Post#1479 » by atlantabbq99 » Thu May 28, 2015 1:10 am

Their have been no rumors about the Kings, but should the Hawks look into or consider a Teague (and other if needed) for the 6th pick in the draft?

Return to Atlanta Hawks
