Great regular season coach but a HORRIBLE playoff coach. His lack of adjustments and ISO style gets exposed in the playoffs. The hawks have underachieved GREATLY in the playoffs. It took us 7 games to beat significantly weaker competition then got blown out in 8 straight 2nd round playoff games.

When he got replaced by a mediorce coach like LD with the same exact team the next season we beat the magic in 6 games and actually won some games in the 2nd round and gave chicago a run for their money.

Yall might do alittle bit better than us with woody because yall have melo instead of joe johnson but I dont think the knicks will EVER be an east threat in the post season as long as woody is the coach. Thats how strongly I feel about him.

Everything Yungsta mentioned is correct. That very adequately sums up Woody's time in ATL.

But it seems that his time working beside D'Antoni has helped him in the offensive strategy dept. I'm always of the opinion that NBA coaches tend to get better, not worse, over time.

Woody's coaching prowess was always very similar to Mike Brown's back in Cleveland. A very capable coach whose focus on defense was so one-sided it basically came at the expense of the offense.

He obviously has much greater offensive talent now than he had here, and he seems open to ideas from guys like 'Melo and Kidd.

I believe he's due for a solid postseason run this year, so long as they avoid MIA in the 2nd round.

Knicks are one and done in my eyes. Woody is in a good spot because most of the team was mostly vets and more equipped for his Iso heavy, no adjustments style. But his predictability is and will be his down fall. Case in point, we ended up with Mike Bibby guarding Lebron James one on one repeatedly in the 4th quarter because he refused to stop switching the pick and roll. He pulled a guy that had 15 points in the 4th quarter for a guy that was 0-8 in he game because that was his starting lineup(we lost the game by the way.)

I honestly could name dozens of these boneheaded moves in the playoffs. If they mess around and play Boston in the first round they are gone.

Love Woody as a guy/person, but he wasn't the greatest coach. I could forgive his iso-heavy offense, or even his defensive schemes which would put Bibby on Dwight after a couple of screens, but I can't forgive his unwillingness to let young players earn any playing time in favor of playing veterans.

100% agree with this, it killed me inside seeing Teague's potential being wasted his first few years because he was benched in favor Bibby

Great coach we just never gave em what he asked for so he went somewhere where he had stars and where he could rape the NBA with the future MVP aka my pre season MVP pick Carmelo Anthony ! BRUH

<sigh>

Please don't use the word 'rape' in general conversation on a sports blog. It is inappropriate. And insensitive.

I believe the word 'pwn' has become a suitable alternative in blogger speak.

People have begun the 'Fire Woodson' movement.

As a Knicks fan, I feel the pain you went through.

Oh, Jesus. I remember trying to describe Woody in detail over on the General Board, telling people not to be fooled by his hot starts that eventually every team figures out exactly what he wants to do and that this would become even more evident and magnified in the playoffs when up against even just a decent team with nothing but a sole focus on playing against him..

*deep breath*

And I was met with retorts along the lines of "Lolz, this is New York not that joke of a team in Atlanta that will make the playoffs for the 6th year in a row at an average seeding of 5th. He had zero talent there so there's no comparison, hater."

Delusional Knicks fans, I agree that they'll never get to the 3rd round with Woodson as the coach, pretty soon they'll be exactly like "that joke of a team from Atlanta."

A coach who doesn't get enough credit.
