Hawks & Pacers

Post#1 » by Hawk Eye » Wed Jul 16, 2014 10:05 pm

I haven't gotten any feedback from this on the T&T board yet but I wanted some feedback from you guys. How do you guys feel about this one?

Hawks Out: John Jenkins
Hawks In: Chris Copeland, 15' or 16' 2nd round pick

Pacers Out: Chris Copeland, 15' or 16' 2nd round pick
Pacers In: John Jenkins

Pacers Reason: Indiana is in need of guards and is already stacked with bigs. They pick up John Jenkins who was a promising young prospect last season for ATL before suffering a back injury. They also create more salary since Copeland's contract is greater than Jenkins. Losing Copeland doesn't really hurt them much anyways considering he rarely saw considerable playing time.

Hawks Reason: Atlanta already has a good amount of guards and Jenkins probably wouldn't have seen as much playing time compared to what he would see in Indiana. Atlanta takes on an expiring contract and recieves another 2nd round draft pick that could be used or packaged for something greater come next off-season. Copeland would see more playing time in Atlanta. I also feel Copeland would benefit us as another 3 point specialist. Perhaps playing him and Korver on the floor together would create more open 3's for one or the other considering Korver gets bombarded by defenders now after that 3 point streak of his last season.

I don't hate it - part of that is because I'm not sure it's big enough to hate...

The only comment is that if we're eating $2M for the diff between the salaries, then I'd request more than a 2nd round pick. If the deal was for Scola (who I think is only partially guaranteed), then I would be more on board with the deal.

EDIT: Apparently, I can't subtract...

Sure... why not. Don't think Indy would do it though.

I just don't see Indiana fans willing to part with scola and a 2nd for a coming off a back injury John Jenkins. But I guess I could be wrong because there's a lot of other things I didn't see happening this off-season. For example: the thabo signing, trading Lou + Bebe, and the Aflalo trade.

I think realistic IND fans would see using the late 2nd to dump the guaranteed portion of Scola's contract as an OK deal. Jenkins would just represent a buy low opportunity since they'd technically be giving up nothing to get him. The question is whether they'd see Jenkins as someone they'd be OK with taking a chance on or if they'd prefer nothing.
