Trae Young not among finalists for Team USA

Hawks point guard Trae Young, named a starter in the upcoming NBA All-Star game, was not one of 44 finalists for the 2020 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team announced by USA Basketball Monday.

Young is currently fourth in the NBA in scoring at 29.7 points per game and second in assists at 9.1 per game.

Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young will take part in his first three-point contest at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game in Chicago.

Before Monday’s game against the Magic, Young said he didn’t have too much to say about being left off the list, but said he would have wanted to play for Team USA.

“I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hurt by seeing it. ... Obviously I would have wanted to play on the team,” Young said.

Forward John Collins was also excluded from the list of candidates who will eventually make up the 12-member team to represent the United States in Tokyo. Both Young and Collins were part of the Select Team that helped the U.S. training for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

When you see some of the players who made the list this is absolutely ridiculous. Hope Trae uses the disrespect as fuel.

As much as I dislike Coach K at least he wasn't affiliated with any NBA teams so there was no bias in his selections. I firmly believe that this omission is payback for Trae getting an "illness" and leaving the World Cup training camp last summer which not coincidentally perfectly coincided with Rudy T promoting his Spurs player Derrick White to the squad ahead of Trae and De'Aaron Fox. Fox quit the team at that time as well and not surprising to see he wasn't on the list either.

This is all politics, NBA nepotism and punishment. I'll be rooting for whoever is playing them in Tokyo.

That's put it all into perspective and what Shakes said.

A year later, might this be rectified?

And how uncomfortable would it be?

It appears that Team USA hates Trae Young.

Or they're committed to sending the B Team to World Cup play? :dontknow:

Or they don't want an Adidas star... but for this year, I would bet on the "B team" option

It would be nice to have him on team USA, but also, it's be weird to see him as a reserve or having around 14 points due to a deep roster. He'd adjust probably.

Trae can't get selected to this thing, but 3 of the top 5 players in the tourney were either drafted or signed by Atlanta.

It definitely feels like Trae was the last (41st) player added to this list...
