A quick look at the Celtics' Summer League roster

The Celtics' Summer League team was scheduled to begin practicing Thursday in Orlando. It begins Summer League play there July 7, when the Celtics will face the Magic at 11 a.m. The Celtics' Summer League team will be coached by Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga.

League sources confirmed to the Globe that the Celtics' Summer League roster has been finalized, and, according to those sources, here are the 13 names on it:

WINTER PARK, Fla. — Jay Larranaga greeted a group of eager-to-impress players last night for the Celtics’ first summer league practice. And while much of the focus understandably was on recent draftees Kelly Olynyk and Colton Iverson and second-year center Fab Melo, Larranaga, who is expected to continue as an assistant under new head coach Brad Stevens, also greeted a pair of holdovers who won’t be playing in games next week.

Can't wait to see these guys in action.

Larranaga is seeing positive signs from first-round pick Kelly Olynyk through the first few pre-summer league sessions.

“I think you have some expectations going into it, and you hope that what you perceive is correct,” Larranaga said. “And Kelly has been great. He really has a high basketball IQ. He’s so team-oriented; that’s one thing you see. He really cares about his teammates and is very helpful to them in practice in just the way he talks. I think he’s going to be a very successful player for us.” . . .

Particularly excited to see Olynyk, Iverson, and Fab go against Nicholson and O'Quinn who both have a season under their belts and performed decently as rookies.

The second-year center is still very young in his basketball development, having taken up the game late in Brazil and growing into his 7-foot frame. But even though Melo was far from being able to contribute last year, Doc Rivers, who had more pressing concerns trying to keep a banged-up team together, wasn’t big on his potential either in public or private.
“I was a rookie. He didn’t usually give opportunities to rookies,” said Melo as he prepared for today’s summer league opener. “That’s all I think it was. It was hard. We didn’t have a lot of practices, so it was hard to show him anything. That was a problem.
