Chad Ford: Jimmy Butler

Post#1 » by Gant » Thu Jun 23, 2011 2:44 pm

Chad Ford's had the Celtics taking Jeremy Tyler for quite a while, but in his latest mock he switched Boston to Jimmy Butler.
Boston

Jimmy Butler

Position: G/F
Height: 6-8
Weight: 222
Age: 21
School: Marquette
Analysis: If the Celtics are going to keep competing for a title, they need players who know their roles, can play without the ball in their hands and meld in. Butler brings toughness, defense and heart.

Butler epitomizes that approach with his game and would be a great fit with the Celtics as a player who can play multiple positions off the bench. Reggie Jackson is another strong possibility here, as is Norris Cole.

I can see this.

Every year I think the Celtics are going to take some raw, long, big man late in the draft and they never do. This year, needing immediate help, I can't see them going that way. Jimmy Butler is a remarkable human being, overcoming great hardship. He can play right away at two spots. He's a Marquette guy so Doc must know him well.

Who can tell what Danny's thinking or who will drop, but Butler's a good guess.

Everybody has to root for this kid.

I believe Jimmy Butler is the pick. If Ainge doesn't like the big guys in this draft then Butler makes a lot of sense. Celtics get their Tony Allen type player back to play defense against Miami and Chicago.

I think the Celtics end up with either Reggie Jackson or Norris Cole also tonight through some type of deal or buying of a pick. I think Ainge wants to run a two PG offense at times like Dallas did with Kidd, Barea. Avery Bradley is more of a two guard.

A little added juice to this- Wojnarowski on Yahoo.com:
• Marquette’s Jimmy Butler could sneak into the first round with the Boston Celtics at No. 25, but will likely will be gone by the early second round.

This could just be Wojo echoing Ford though.

Unless they're moving Green, I don't see why they need another sf???

Butler Can play sg,sf, and is a very goood passer, very goood defender and doesnt need the ball in his hand to be a goood player. were gonna need a solid defence of sf/sg to cover melo, lebron, wade, deng. butler seems like a solid pick

alsofrom what im hearing kemba is going to drop if some how ainge can get a pick in the 16s or lower we could snag him

I'd be a big fan of this pick. I think Butler going to a very good player, following in the footsteps of unheralded rookies like Landry Fields and Jared Dudley. A nice option with Von Wafer as the 4th/5th wing after Ray, Pierce and Green.

With Green here there isn`t really that much of a need for a back up SF anymore but I wouldn`t mind drafting Butler. With him you know he will do everything possible to succeed.

As long as we don`t draft Tylor I will be happy.

more Chad Ford:

The Boston Celtics are taking a hard look at Marquette's Jimmy Butler and Boston College's Reggie Jackson with the 25th pick in the draft. But there's another potential option for the Celtics.

The team is open to moving out of the draft altogether if they can trade their pick for a young player. The Celtics have a $2.4 million trade exception that would allow them to take back a young player without having to send anything in return other than the 25th pick.

If we get Butler I would consider it a pretty successful night. He has been on my short list for the last couple weeks of people that we should take. I'm glad DA isn't sleeping on him like everyone else.

Chad Ford will be on WEEI in about a minute. I'm sure he'll speak about this.

Hopefully Danny has Memphis on the phones in a OJ Mayo discussion :D

Mayo makes a heck of a lot more than Boston's $2.4 TE. I wouldn't get my hopes up for Mayo in Boston.

Alex Kennedy: It sounds like the Boston Celtics will move the #25 pick. Multiple sources saying it's available. 4 minutes ago

I'll take a trade with Cleveland for Hickson, #32, #54 for Boston's TPE, #25 and Boston's 2012 1st round pick.

Butler? Could get him in the second round. I would just as soon move out of the first round and not get hamstrung by the salary. We can't have any more projects on our roster.

You either play, or you die. (Watching too much Game of Thrones :D ).

My internet got disabled so I missed some of it but...

Ford:

Josh Smith more likely to end up in Orlando, but Boston a possibility.

Josh Selby possible as a developmental pick.

Jimmy Butler: would fulfill a Marquis Daniels role. A glue guy, fits in, does everything, doesn't make mistakes, but not a superstar by any means. An amazing young man.

Maybe Reggie Jackson.

Rebuilding team might want to get the 25th pick plus dump a little salary with the trade exception.

Then there was some Jimmer blather.

On Reggie Jackson, there's a report from Sam Amick that OKC is the team with a promise to him. That makes sense. I'm sure Miami likes him, but no one rated that highly shuts down workouts to get picked in the second round. You do it to get guaranteed first round money. If the OKC thing is true, he's off the board at #24.

Would definitely make sense because I read somewhere that they could be shopping Eric Maynor for a lottery pick as well. I would assume there's more to it than that but if they were to move Maynor, they'd have a need at backup guard.

Return to Boston Celtics
