I can see Ainge making some really big splashes.

If Ainge comes out of this draft with Wroten/Draymond Green with the 21 and 22 picks he'll be a winner.

But if I'm Ainge I do what I have to do to move up and get either a couple of guys in the draft or a guy in the draft and another young player in the NBA. Drummond, Sullinger, Leonard, Rivers, Ross, Barnes... just a lot of guys who I think are going to have great NBA careers.

The guy you move to do it is Rondo and the reason why is because I believe that Rondo is Doc's masterpiece, or in other words the Celtics will be able to draft and develop guys to be successful playing PG as long as we have Danny and Doc.

I'd be looking to deal with the Kings (especially if you're talking about landing a big man) and try to get the 5 + Evans/Thomas/Fredette/Thompson... one or two of those guys; with Portland go for 6/11 if you can get two guys you really covet. a Barnes/Leonard type combo or maybe Sullinger/Rivers.

Andre Miller, Nash, or even Deron could be targeted in Free Agency as well.

Moving Rondo is akin to being a lotto team the next couple of years

I think you're delusional when it comes to Rondo. If Doc can really work magic with any point guard, you have to wonder what he was thinking with, Banks, Telfair, Pruitt, and Bradley.

PG and center are the most difficult positions to fill. Now that we have an elite point, let's not give him away for some speculative talent.

Hold on, Rondo for evans and the 5 pick? Evans sucks for christ sake, give it up already.

Rondo for the 6th and 11th pick? LOL

Lets trade the best PG in the playoffs for some draft picks, makes a ton of sense

Yep, it's the perfect time to trade Rondo because it's pretty clear what his ceiling is as a player and it's clear he's not even prime Pierce level.

I believe that this is THE draft to reload and by dealing Rondo now you are trading him at his peak value. Frankly I think that Doc and KG have gotten the most possible out of Rondo and there will be prospects available in this draft who'll be bigger impact players than Rondo. Trading Rondo in either scenarios will expand the talent level of the team.

Ainge was a fan of Evans during the draft process and this would be an excellent time to buy on Reke while his value is low. Doc would be the perfect coach for him.

Williams, Nash or Miller*/Bradley
Reke/Ray
Pierce/Green
KG/Draymond Green #22
Drummond #5/Steamer/Nicholson #21

That team would be a much deeper and well rounded team than just plugging along with the status quo.

*The key would be to find that PG to either start in front of Bradley or to back him up. Obviously Deron would be ideal but unlikely. Andre Miller would be a perfect mentor for Bradley/Reke. The two Greens provide steady all around versatile support and you can take your time developing Nicholson/Drummond up front.

We have no idea what his ceiling is, but do know that he was the best PG so far in the playoffs.

Most possible out of Rondo? You just keep making stuff up to try and push your agenda. Rondo maintained his assist level from the regular season, while improving his shooting at a much higher volume. The kid has not hit his ceiling and nothing supports otherwise

Please name the players in the draft who we can obtain that will have a bigger impact than Rondo. Please?

humblebum wrote:Ainge was a fan of Evans during the draft process and this would be an excellent time to buy on Reke while his value is low. Doc would be the perfect coach for him.
You mean years ago? Since then Reke has become their SF because a rookie was a better option at PG. So we trade our elite PG for that moron?
Since when is Doc a miracle worker? Reke does not have PG skills, never has and never will regardless of who his coach is.

DWill is not coming here, seriously are we just throwing random names out there now? Nash/Miller? Is this the Senior league.
Our coaching staff/GM think AB is a SG and the PG situtation was a mistake, you should probably drop that nonsense already

Drummond will not last to the 5th pick, not happening. Teams will realize the talent once workouts begin

My agenda is putting the best basketball team on the floor for the Celtics and I'm not big on Rondo's style of play or his character. He's an awesome talent but he's very slight and doesn't have one aspect of his scoring game that is polished or elite.

Evans has the talent to be a big time star in this league but it often happens with young players on losing teams that a change of scenery/coaches can do a world of good for them. He's got great tools to be a phenomenal two way player, sort of like a rich man's Tony Allen. He and Bradley would be lethal on defense and they complement each other wonderfully. Nash/Miller would be great one 2 year deals to help mentor these young guards.

Cousins, a similarly talented big man lasted to the 5th pick only a few seasons ago, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that Drummond will still be there. There are other players whom Ainge might find it worth the while to still do Evans/#5 outside of Drummond though.

At the end of the day I'm not willing to marry myself to Rondo's up and down effort, slender frame, and lack of a consistent scoring game. His value is at an all time high and for those who are eager to keep the status quo alive the last two games we just watched are a cautionary tale.

Now is the time to move Rondo if Ainge sees someone he loves at the top. It will be the equivalent of the Pierce for CP3 trade that was so close.

Rondo's main contributions are on the offensive end and we have been a poor offensive team. I love the guy and he is obviously a gamer, but it's time to reload with some superstars in Boston. I'd trust Ainge to get a superstar with the draft pick and a guy who would flourish here along with it.

People act as if Rondo really is Magic just because he puts up stats like him and because he has a flare for the dramatic. The difference, Magic was a true leader like KG and size, size, size. Rondo is just a little guy and little guys are not often franchise caliber guys who are the crucial player on championship teams. Look at Miami and OKC, no Rondo types floating around on those teams.

Rondo was a #21 pick. Al Jefferson was a #15 pick. Give Ainge a #5/Evans or a #6/#11? It's going to be lights out because Doc, contrary to popular fan sentiment, is superb at developing young talent and Ainge isn't going to strike out that high in the draft.

Having two more picks (or one if he had to include #21 to get #5/Evans) just makes Ainge all the more dangerous. Drummond or Sullinger/Leonard along with Draymond Green would be a dramatically improved young core.

Trading Rondo isn't a necessity but looking at this draft and the talent at the top just makes it so enticing. Ainge could rebuild the team's talent base by dealing Rondo while his value is this high.

Bradley/Evans/Drummond or Sullinger/Draymond/Jeff Green... That's a filthy group of young players. Ainge can find a competent PG to take the reins from Bradley/Evans until Doc can work his magic on those players and they can take over.

But Rajon doesnt bring u in a guy who is dramaticaly better does he? You get perhaps a solid player and a bench dude. I guess you could get a lottery pick. But if you trade Rajon for a pick, u lose KG for sure and likely PP. Ray is gone IMO. Then you have high draft pick guy with no veterans to teach him the Boston ways.

I agree, do it now and get the proposed potential core of Drummond/Evans/X
Be a lottery team for a few years OKC style and have a shot at a dynasty for years to come.
This is the way we should do it considering we all know how good Danny Ainge is in drafting.

Being mediocre for the next years isn't what Rondo deserves, it's Dwight Howard or bust.
People are acting like this team still has a future with KG/Pierce as our main pieces. Pierce is done, KG won't get any better, these guys are 36/37, we cannot play any 7-game series against Miami/Bulls/Indiana next year unless we get two rebounding bigs and Jeff Green/AB back productively. Even then it's a long shot since we probably lose Ray Allen and everything needs to be perfect + it's still only a one year window without any guarantees.

I trust in our GM and if he decides to trade Rondo (which I'm pretty sure he will explore, given the history) , then I do believe he knows what he's doing, Rondo has had monster playoff performances before, that didn't stop Danny from trying to unload him. Think about it, I think he's pretty good at what he does, for basketball reasons heh.

Do you guys realise that by trading Rondo we play right into Miami'a hands? Those guys are scared of Rondo, not KG. We need to re-tool around Rondo.

wow, this is the pile on Rondo post. If it guarantees the first pick in the next three drafts, might be worth considering. Otherwise, I'll pass.

Rondo is a top 15 player. When he has confidence in his shot and gets to the line he is a top 3 player.

You don't trade guys like that. Create capspace and get another star aside him in 2013 or 2014. In the meantime draft well, don't sign guys to longterm deals to kill cap space, and turn Rondo into the post-Russell Hondo.

Rondo is entering the prime, which should last for the next six or seven seasons. He can and will get better.

Committing to the lottery is not an option for the Celtics. They have season tickets holders on the hook for 1 more year. Beyond that they need to provide a product that continues to sell.

Wouldn't get to concerned about it. Like any player he could be moved if the price is right. After posting 17/12/6.7 after 20 games in the postseason that price is likely too high for most teams, especially considering the contract he is on. Ainge will more likely building a new core with him, disappointing many on this board.
