And what's wrong with that? If you had two job offers- one to stay where you were for 100k, and one to move for 400k what would you do? I think the answer is obvious.
The Truth will lead us to (the) #18 (pick) in June!

Bass just showed he's a starter in this league; I am not sure Celtics will give up on him.
He isn't worse than Haslem or Diaw and these guys are legit starters. And he can be better.
TBh he is 27, this was perhaps his best season so far. Assuming we reload; in 1 or 2 years he will be 28-29 maybe in his peak already. Why not give him these 5 years and then trade him next year or so? His value may even go up. If we rebuild his contract for 90% will be at least worth a late 1st pick, maybe a mid pick if he gets better.

By far the best case scenario would have been Bass opt-ing in, does anyone disagree with this?
I don't think you'd find much better bang for your buck other than a duncan/durant type on a rookie deal.
as much as i like him as a starter he is a weak link. now we can renounce him if we need cap space or sign and trade for a better (more expensive) piece or resign him to a big one year deal (like we were going to do w green) w an eye to him being a part of a larger deal a few months down the road. or keep him. lots more options and contract flexibility

I agree with Marley2Hendrix, at 4'5mil he would be a bargain, somehow we all knew he's worth more than that and that he opts out, no surprise

yes, would have been a bargain, no doubt but as virtually every post has noted it was not a realistic expectation. you might as well lament that lebron did not sign with us for the minimum

it was not to be
now that he has opted out - as most of us expected - it grants us a lot more flexibility as noted above

I agree about flexibility good point, however this FA class; best players in it are Celtics

so I'd rather have Bass on cheat contract rather than more flexibility

Sign KG. Then Deron. Trade Bass, the picks that we draft for ATL and scrap for Josh Smith, then trade Rondo and change for Howard.
