Wow.

That's awful.

Let's hope he's underrated.

Hes coming off of a year where he had season ending heart surgery, he had a bad stretch with the Celtics the last time he played, and hes been an underwhelming player his entire career. I think this spot is fine.

Jeff Green is ranked around Marvin Williams.

Jeff Green has almost identical career like Marvin Williams.

So I think ESPN didn't give Jeff Green any penalty for his absence in last season.

Unless Jeff Green could "break-out" and separated himself from Marvin Williams, otherwise he is where ranked now.

Not that I trust ESPN, but that's probably around where I would rank him, or not too far off, all things considered.

I take Marvin Williams on my team before Jeff Green. To keep objective, statistically they are similar in terms of their cumulative stats, by my calculations (and the stats possibly/probably overrate them in my opinion). But Marvin Williams would seem to be the better defender. Green has better offensive ability, but Marvin Williams seems more content with a supporting role. Green may be more consistent, but Marvin Williams shows flashes every so often of being a player who should have been drafted where he was drafted (or close to it). We played a game versus ATL I forget if it was last year or the season before, Williams was all over the place for ATL, coming up big and hustling more than I can recall ever seeing Jeff Green hustle. Marvin Williams is an underachiever, probably a bit more of an underachiever than Green. I would wager though that Jeff Green perhaps has a longer history of underachieving, considering he wasn't even considered a top 100 prospect out of HS despite his physical advantages, and then never really showing significant year to year improvement ever since he was a frosh at Georgetown. Williams' on/off court data doesn't say anything special about him, Green's data is worse, though both players may have been misutilized in their own ways. They are both the same age (a month or two apart).

But we had his rights. We need tradeable contracts, and there is a chance Green will play just well enough to be tradeable. And worst case we could trade him for a contract like Marvin Williams' perhaps. And he's spent a lot of time around the team. I am hoping Doc/DA and co have good insight resulting from that, which makes them feel comfortable with the contract. But without doubting them, I am also hopeful that they simply weren't misled by a likeable personality coupled with "upside" and pity.

lol Jeff Green shouldn't be in the same conversation as Marvin Williams.
The only reason he is mentioned around that ranking is because he is an unknown now after his surgery and his short stint with the Celtics as 6th man.

Have any of you seen him when he started for Durant in OKC when Durant was injured? His stats were just incredible. It was only a short stint of 6 or so games, but he dominated every game at the 3.
If Williams and Green both go on the market now, the most Williams gets is 4 million per year. Maybe 5. JG just got 9 from us and could get the same from plenty of other teams.

Jeff Green IS Marvin Williams. They have the same exact game. Hit a couple of threes, couple of drives to the hoop and that is it. Both of these players are completely underwhelming.
17 and counting.

If you guys take Marvin Williams over Jeff Green then you guys are idiots.

Guess its the typical Celtic fan who watches & knows everything about the Celtics but not the rest of the league.
Lol i'm actually really pissed that you guys are saying this.

About the ranking that's fine. Missed the entire year & played bad the 2nd half. So a rough 1.5 seasons for him no wonder why he's ranked so low. Give him this year & he'll shooooot up that list in no time.

& ESPN RANKINGS are an absolute joke. Half of the comments on there are all making fun of it too.

I think the Green vs. Marvin Williams comparisons are fair. I think Marvin Williams is less athletic looking and I think he has hit his ceiling already. You know what he is. Green has yet to play enough at SF position or with Rondo enough to know for sure what he can do. If what we saw his first season in Boston is the real Jeff Green then I would agree he and Marvin Williams is a wash. But I think he will be better this year.
During games, players used to hear Kevin Garnett screaming at Howard: "Paint your face, clown!" up and down the floor.

I think he's where he should be. Being ranked in the 160s - 170s means that on average, he'd be among the 6th best player on a team.

Although I'm sure there are some geniuses on this board going nuts about how low he's ranked...

I don't know about taking Marvin Williams over Jeff Green, but it's not like Jeff Green is Durant compared to him either. I think they're about the same. Both can do some of everything, good size at the 3 and not that tough. And considering that Green missed a whole season, where would you rank him? I don't think you can say he's a definite starter on most NBA teams. Being ranked among the 6th best player on teams is about the right spot.

He did and I don't like the 4-years on a guy coming off sitting out a year, but it's not like we could have used that money on someone else anyways, so not a big deal.

The Marvin Williams comparison is fair however I think Green brings more to the table. He runs the floor much better, has a better post game, but most importantly he is a better passer. I am really looking forward to seeing him work with KG, Sully, Rondo, and AB. The ball movement and Bball IQ of all of those players are really high
