KG in a walking boot after Nets' game

I have a feeling I've seen this before a few times.. Imo, if KG isn't himself in the playoffs we can't go anywhere.

Kevin Garnett has already been ruled out of tomorrow night's game with the Heat due to a sore ankle, and after last night's game with the Nets, KG was spotted in a walking boot.

With barely a week to go before the playoffs start—that's not good.

Today Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge made his weekly appearance on WEEI's "Salk and Holley" this afternoon and addressed the boot.

Well, you know, so first of all, there’s no such thing as 100 percent for anybody, right now,” Ainge said. “But KG, you can see how well he’s moving on the court. Last night, he didn’t have one of his better games on the court, but he was moving very well. You could see him defense laterally and he was rebounding and he was very active. The walking boot is just precautionary. It’s just … some guys keep ice on their legs after every game — sometimes, their legs are sore, sometimes, they’re not. They do it as a precautionary thing.

The walking boot … he has some inflammation in his foot, so every time he stops playing, he has the walking boot on. He doesn’t wear it all the time, but he just wears it after games to make sure his foot isn’t moving any more than it needs to. So it’s just precautionary right now.

Bloody hell, if he has got any type of lingering foot injury we are screwed. I don't even think constant jabs would make a difference

He's minimizing inflammation. He's not a 25 year old buck. This is simply being prudent.

Let's try not panty up over everything, especially because of an effort to mitigate insults to a critical joint.

We can still win this. Our margin of error may be quite small. But the Celtics have faced and overcome far worse odds then this. Our old men beat Chamberlein, West and Baylor on their turf. All three were far better than anything we had.

Call me crazy, but this isn't a good sign. Kevin Garnett's playoff +/- was absurd last year. I know people think Rondo's 10+ assists per game were the catalyst for this team making a run to game 7 of the ECF, but without the big man this team just can't defend and isn't dynamic enough offensively to beat the top teams in the East. My honest to goodness feeling is that with Garnett healthy the Celtics can minimize a guy like Anthony to around 40% shooting and make guys like JR Smith beat them, but without him it is going to be a real uphill climb and I don't think the Celtics have it in them.

Looking at how this season played out, it does make you wish that Ainge had cashed in on the old guys and got something for the future. I know I've never seen a .500 team win a championship and I don't think it's going to happen now.

Well, we all know that KG is injured, so I won't panic over something I already know.
And basing on what I've seen from his 2 days of playing w/ the team, he has moved well for an injured player.

And whether he's injured or not, you know that Doc's going to sit him and Pierce against Miami. No use tiring ourselves over a game that we'd probably end up losing, and it's also wise to hide your aces against teams you're aiming to beat.

Whether KG will be okay or not, we'll see in the first 2 games of the playoffs. The remaining games of the season would just be a warm up and would be a bit of burn for him.

The less contact the bone spurs have the better.

This is nothing but a precautionary thing to make sure his bone spurs don't act up or do work when he's not on the floor.

I'm a little worried though.

I'm already getting this feeling that we're going to be playing a pivotal playoff game at TD Garden and KG is going to be limping up and down the court like Willis Reed.

If KG isn't playing well and he may not be able to with an injury, Boston may be swept by the Knicks. With him healthy and playing well for 36mpg+, Rondo, Sullinger and Barbosa, I still think it would have been an uphill climb for Boston without HCA but given the present state of the team, I don't like the Celtics chances at all. And I don't know how it gets much better next year.

The walking boot is either being ultra cautious and anal to try to be in the best shape humanly possible or its a sign at how much he will be struggling with his foot. Knowing how upfront the Celtics are with injuries, I'm certainly leaning towards the latter.

I don't think Green will play as well as what Rondo did last year but assuming he did. Who the heck makes up for KG playing more injured, PP a year older and the competition much better. Bradley? Only to a substantial degree if he starts shooting much better which I kind of doubt will happen before he has a full off season to get better. Terry? As bad as Ray Allen was at times, he is at least a better decoy on offense then Terry since Allen had to be guarded most of the time where ever he was on the court since teams were so scared of his shooting ability.

I think you are debating yourself on the first paragraph - I don't think anyone gives this team a shot at winning a playoff series without a functioning KG.

You're probably right. But I hope it doesn't surprise you when I say a 48-34 team once won a championship, and that you can indeed guess which team I'm referring to.

(Bill Russell's last season, of course.)

There also were 47- and 49-win champions in back to back years. (Blazers and Sonics.)

maybe the boot is supposed to help speed healing. im sure kg is ok. also maybe danny is doing sun tzu art of war. making the team seem weaker than it is. knicks will underestimate us and we will destroy them

I am debating the people saying that this is "precautionary" or "Garnett (or the team) being prudent". All I'm saying is you have to be out of your mind nuts if you follow this team closely and aren't worried about Garnett sporting a walking boot and clearly being injured with 4 games left in the season.

You forgot the 47 win Rockets dude!!! I think the Celtics are a lot better than your average .500 team. However, this is predicated on Garnett upping his minutes from high 20s to high 30s in the playoffs. If he is hurt or can't deliver effective minutes we are your average .500 or worse. .500 teams don't win championships.

Nothing wrong with Paul or KG.

Two weeks ago, it was Paul's ankle. Oh my God, Paul's ankle is about to fall off !! Why else would he sit out a game.

The very next day, it's announced that Paul's wife gave birth. Think that may have had something to do with Paul's absence?? Hell no! Paul's got a bad ankle.

KG.

Doc's talked all season about finding him rest and how hard it is to get him to take time off. So before playoff time, he finally sits him down for almost two weeks.

When asked, Danny and Doc can't even get their stories straight about :
A) What he hurt
B) When he got hurt

He went through practice Mon and Tues., played Wednesday night and is sitting out with Paul tonight with the 7th seed basically wrapped up.

But still we have to hear about : OMG!!! His leg is dangling by a thread or his foot's going to fall off.

Gullible..Naive...etc.

You want to know what all this rest is? It's not injury rest....

It's "This is my last ride" rest. That's right. KG's last playoff ride and they're giving him the opportunity to go full tilt,coming off plenty of rest.

So get your popcorn ready ..........
