Not a surprise at all, but a pretty good contact to have on the books for a trade. If Anthony does make it through the offseason he's a solid enough 3rd center off the bench.

Didn't expect this, thought there were at least 5-6 teams out there to pay him 10 mils/year.
Good assessment:

Do you really think so? Doesn't the new CBA make expirings less desirable?

I ask because Humphries was a nice expiring and he got us nothing. So that makes me wonder if Bass (obviously a much, much better player than Anthony) can even net us anything, let alone if Anthony can. Do you guys really think so?

Expirings are less useful when it comes to acquiring draft picks for taking back salary. But, They are still very useful in any major trade we make.

Humphries also had a 12 mil deal, so if there was no blockbuster to be had he wasn't going to be moved. I'm sure the Celtics tried, but it never matched up. Anthony on the other hand is only 3.8 and can be used to fill in for a deal that wouldn't match otherwise.

As for Bass I think he has value and I believe the Rockets did have some interest in him just not enough to move Asik in a deal for him.

No surprise as he will never see a payday like this again. With the new CBA expiring contracts are not really much of an asset these days.

Joel's like a Super Jason Collins, which makes for a pretty good 3rd string center.. But if he's in a position to get consistent minutes next year, Ainge didn't have a very good offseason,

this is actually a good thing. He will be back end filler on a big trade this offseason. Whoever acquires him can simply eat that 3.8 million and waive him. Boston will also be sending the cash in the same deal to pay for the buyout. BOOK IT!

Less desirable? Yes. Certainly for a straight dump. But to make any "large" trade where you need to match salaries... they are still very very important.

This can be the only thought in mind for this trade - two second round picks - his contract has to be with trades in mind
