OT: Bogans Traded from Cleveland to Phil: HA-HA
Cleveland was so in love with Keith Bogans they traded him to Philadelphia, creating a $5.3 Million trade exception. In return, Philadelphia will get a future 2nd Round Pick from the Cavs.

Ainge must really like this kid Powell or something, becuase if not, why wouldn't he have just done this from the beginning and not take on two additional guaranteed contracts? I mean, I guess they are easily digestible (not much of an actual cap hit) if they waive them.

In exchange for Bogans,
the Celtics received
$5.3 Million TPE
Cleveland's 2016 2nd Round Pick
Cleveland's 2017 2nd Round Pick
John Lucas III (fully unguaranteed)
Malcolm Thomas (fully unguaranteed)
Erik Murphy (fully unguaranteed)
Dwight Powell (about $500,000 guaranteed)
He's cheaper than buying a second round pick, and the Celtics got two of them.

Still, I gotta think DA sees something in the kid. I mean, we've all moved on from Colton Iverson, right?

I don't follow why we got $5.3 mil TPE. Wouldn't our TPE be, at most, the difference between Bogans' salary and those of the 4 incoming guys? So something like 3 million at most? And this all assumes Cleveland has room under the cap to receive Bogans.
Or...is it 2 separate deals? Bogans for 1 draft pick would create a TPE. And we could give another 2nd round pick for the miminum salary guys and the 2nd pick. But is that what happened?

As I understand it, John Lucas III's salary was absorbed in an existing TPE, which I assume was C. Lee's. All the rest were absorbed in Minimum Exceptions, with the Sac silly protected 2nds going to CLE. So Bogans went out by himself in exchange for picks and the new TPE.

ok so...
we traded bogans and got back 2 2nd rounders and a TPE.
then CLE turns around and trades him *with* a second rounder just to get their own TPE?
so basically CLE gave up 3 2nd rounders (and some back-end players) just to get a 5.3mil TPE?
lol damn. hope it was worth it for them.

More like 5 2nd rounders. Murphy (2013) and Powell (2014) are both 2nd round picks.

Late 2nd round picks are fairly worthless.

Why do people keep saying this? They are "fairly worthless" if you're trying to draft a rotation player with them. Not if you are using them as trade fodder to create $5.3million trade exceptions. Which is what DA does. Repeatedly. I can understand saying this if you're a Laker or Heat fan. But the Cs? I mean, even the Cavs are learning.

The San Antonio Spurs would beg to differ 2/3rds of their roster is second round picks.

Hopefully he enjoys the view from the sixers bench better than the celtics bench.
