Report from the first practice for the summer league squad.

Looks like the coaches worked them pretty hard.

Hell, I keep forgetting that Young just turned 20....He's still the youngest player on the team, Mickey is just 10 months older...and he's damn young too at 20 years old (for about a week)!

The C's coaches are dishing out a lot of info at summer league workouts, but Marcus Smart says the rookies are "absorbing it like a sponge."

Good article on Smart taking a leadership role with the summer league guys and an update on James Young's new attitude:

Nothing will piss me off more than seeing Pressey in the summer league. Let Smart/Rozier run the show... This is what summer league is for

Jimmy Butler 6-7 220 lbs. Rookie year age 22 averaged 8 min/gm and 2.6 ppg.
James Young 6-7 220 lbs. Rookie Year age 19 averaged 10 min/gm and 3.4 ppg.

How good can he be? Will he show more urgency this year?
I said it last summer - he looked like the more talented guy than Smart. He sounds hungrier and healthier and primed to have his real rookie season. I won't be shocked if he busts but I also believe he could look untradable foundational player at year's end.

Translation: We don't know where our offense will come from.
I kid, of course. James Young is gonna explode for 50 points per game at least.

I really hope they don't guarantee his next year. I just don't see what they think he's going to ever be. He's 24 already, undersized, not a freak athlete and hasn't shown any upisde. His absolute best case scenario looks like emergency 3rd PG. What is the point of rostering him for this team?

Pressey has been a loyal soldier and his father is a former player and a longtime assistant coach (currently with the Lakers). Good organizations don't screw people. They are giving Phil a showcase opportunity to see if he can latch on somewhere else.

I agree in spirit but I don't think he'd have a hard time getting picked up by another summer league team. Presseys been around long enough and we've done right by him by letting him get some time in real NBA games. We already have a crowded backcourt, it's about time to sever our ties with Phil.

He's been in the NBA for two years every team knows who he is. Wouldn't the better opportunity for him be to have let him go earlier so he can latch on earlier so he could have gotten on a summer league roster of a team that might want him, and started learning his new team's system?

Don't you think his agent already has permission to talk with other teams?

Shame on anyone who didn't vote for "win the tournament". It's fricking summer league - if there's ever a time it's safe to be irrationally, unapologetically homerific, this is it. Save your realism for the regular season.

Gonna watch a few minutes of SL to see Winslow and Turner play and see if all the fuss was justified. First impression of Winslow is that he looks huge but like most rooks looks a little lost. Turner with a nice looking block on Winslow after a foul.

Ok, I'm sold on Turner. Nice 3 point shot and legit shot blocker. 3 and D 7 footer has a place in NBA. Not nearly as clumsy a runner as draftniks suggested. Winslow looks disinterested and a bit like a prima donna but he really looks like a cut above everybody else athletically. He definitely looks like a star .... Remains to be seen if he an shoot like one.

Miami's summer league squad is stacked. Miami is gunna be a problem in the east for the next 2-3 years with their current/future talent.
