Judging by the poll results, a lot of people are setting themselves up to be disappointed again, as has been Green Team tradition for the past 40 years (2008 notwithstanding). This team has choke in their DNA and that is one area where I don’t expect them to disappoint.

Cautiously optimistic but wouldn't be surprised at all if they fall short again. It's all on Tatum. He's got to be THAT guy.

The fact that this thread even exists should have been enough of a warning for you guys..

Long-time poster, been lurking most of the season, just haven't had much spare time with family.

I haven't had trust in this team in forever. In hindsight, it was a travesty that we only won 1 title with Pierce/Allen/KG. Even the 2010 team had no business being in the Finals after their lazy regular season shenanigans. It didn't surprise me that they came up short then, and it didn't surprise me again 2 years ago when this team just went into a meltdown.

I'm as happy as anyone when we succeed, but I just can't emotionally invest like I used to. We need to get this monkey off our back, but I don't see anyone like Pierce, who would initiate contact, get the other team in foul trouble, and keep driving to the hoop until the buzzer sounds.

Tatum's FTr in the first 2 games so far is .421. It's lower than Pierce's .479 in the 2008 post-season, but .421 is still elite. He's also getting a lot of buckets inside. Tatum's main issue so far has been his 3P shooting. Tatum's 2p fg% is .583 so far. There's really no argument you can make to say Pierce was good at driving to the hoop or shooting the midrange. Pierce for his career was .455 2p fg% in the playoffs and solidly under 50% during the contending seasons, his 2p fg% being hurt hugely due to his extremely poor finishing numbers (.553, .564, .553, .541 from 0-3 in the 4 playoffs between 2008 - 2011).

Like I said, when people start to doubt JT, he responds.

If they do win it all this year, it'll be the first time in ages where it feels like the title will have been won in the regular season as much as the playoffs. Which is kinda cool.
