Ah...but Oliver was a guy who player C,big wingspan, great passer, high FG %. At 300 lb, he could have been okay. Unfortunately...and 350 the fullcourt game didn't work for him. Sweetney is a scoring F who's other skills were never good. He can't do it playing overweight.

Shelden is a pretty good player if used right and enough. He hasn't been developed much and has been left to rust too often.

Sweetney has more talent and game but he is overweight. So I don't see how we have room for him. Williams is a stiff but at least he has a good work ethic. Does Danny gamble on the overweight guy? I don't think he does in a championship year.

Im surprised at some of what im reading in this thread. I feel like Sweets has a narrow offensive game, doesnt move his feet on defense as well as Williams, and clearly has self-esteem/motivational issues that extend beyond the gymnasium. Every year he promises himself and likely his coach that "this is the year im sticking to a healthy lifestyle regiment" but, over 1/2 a decade later .....

I think a man who does the best with what he has, ala Williams, is more valuable than a potentially better athlete who lacks that fire in the belly it takes to be a pro. Hes not the same guy he was in 2003.

Keep Williams and wish Sweets the best of luck as a FA.

I think Sheldon Williams will fill the Mikki Moore role, which means if Perk, Garnett, Sheed and Big Baby are all out with the flu he might get 5-10 min. if Scalabrine needs a breather.

Sweetney is that big and therefore one must assume that he cannot/will not lose the weight. People say they can't believe he won't lose the weight with millions on the line..... but more importantly, in 10 years will he lose that weight when his life is on the line? Diabetes, high blood pressure etc. probably won't be enough either.

That is why he won't stick. But honestly, there is a lot of talent there.... and just like with Vin Baker.... it is being wasted.

Sweetney looks like he could make more of an impact in very limited minutes, Williams looks like the better option if guys ahead of him go down. Both would be fighting for title of fifth big at best, so I'd rather go with the guy who can give me more and have potential, meaning Sweetney.

Sweetney could return to the NBA if he loses the weight, but there's not much chance it happens this year, so there's not much reason for him to take a spot on our roster.

It's clearly Shelden. I was hopeful on Sweetney as I said during the summer league that he had the best chance of making the roster out of the players that weren't our draft picks. He has the talent. But he is so fat it's ridiculous. He probably gained weight from when summer league ended. Even though he may get you a few buckets, he is just a huge liability in all the other aspects because he can barely move. Maybe if he goes to the Maine D-League team for a few months and drops 20 pounds then maybe we can call him back up if needed. But not in this shape.

Shelden on the other hand has come in great shape. He didn't play that well yesterday, but I'm pretty optimistic in what he can give us. He is probably the 6th big on the depth chart anyway. But once he gets comfortable with the system, he should provide us with some solid defense and rebounding whenever called upon. Aside from being in great shape, he was also vocal on the defensive end and putting a lot of effort on both side. I think he'll make an impact for us sometime during the season.

What happened to the Sweetney from 2003? It looks like the Sweetney from 2009 ate him.
"LeBron has done more recruiting in the last five days than he did in the last three years," said one Western Conference executive.

I don't know how the Celtics can take Sweetney seriously. The guy needs to lose 80+ pounds. Hopefully this gives Sweetney a kick in the ass and maybe he can actually start shedding some weight.

The Landlord has good skills but bad/small hands. He can do some nice things, plays hard, and has a decent jump shot, but he's going to miss layups and fumble away rebounds too.

As for Sweetney, it's impossible for him to get in shape anytime this season, but I wouldn't mind keeping him around as an emergency back up big man plan. But we're outta room. Unless they move one of the 15 guaranteed, Mike won't make it.

Either way, Williams >Sweetney because Sweetney's pretty useless this season--if we're counting on him things will have gone very wrong. Sheldon, on other hand, has utility.
