Build a team around this SP!

Post#1 » by maseda17 » Tue Apr 3, 2007 1:23 am

A lot of great young starting pitching around the league right now. Looking to see which of the following guys you most wish you had on your team with salaries and arbitration years being a nonfactor. I only included players with major league experience or are beginning the 07 season with the major league club.

The D'Rays are basically already building a team around Scott Kazmir so I chose them.

Adam Wainwright, how did he make one of the choices? He's not even in the same league as those guys. Bonderman is younger and a lot better, also Peavy and Zambrano are the same age and a lot better.

Oh, and the correct answer is Felix Hernandez.

They don't call him King Felix for nothing. The only one close would be Liriano- and thats if he had no injury issues. For now there's only one choice here.

I didn't include Peavy and Zambrano because they are already established studs in this league for the past several years. I also think you are discounting how good Wainright is and will be.

Really, I am? A reliever last year who didn't even really dominate and he's ranked in the with the top young starters in the game. Also, this is coming from a Cardinal fan.
Really theres no way in hell he's better than Bonderman, Weaver, Verlander, E. Santana, and S. Olsen amongst others, while all these guys are younger. But I digress, I'm not trying to take away from the original question, which the clear answer is Felix.

Of the guys mentioned I would only take Jered Weaver and Jeremy Bonderman over Wainwright and Bondy is entering his 5th season or something along those lines already. I am trying to limit the poll to guys with very minimal experience. Weaver should have definetly been included but I don't think it is so ridiculous to put Wainwright in this poll.

I think he meant only Weaver and Bonder over Wainwright, which is still crazy considering he wouldn't take Verlander, E. Santana and Olsen over Wainwright, but I'm not trying to argue about it.

Ya I certainly didn't mean over Felix. I was referring to the players you mentioned. It may sound crazy to some but yes I believe he is better than E. Santana, Olsen, and Verlander. In fact I think Verlander is probably at the bottom of that group of players. Wainwright will probably be the #2 guy in that Cardinals rotation by year's end.

It's not saying much to be the Cards #2, although Looper will be damn impressive as a starter.

If healthy, I would take Liriano, he's as dominant as any pitcher in this league

Hopefully he doesnt turn into another Mark Prior (but I still feel Mark Prior can bounce back)

I'll take Hernandez, but Jeremy Bonderman should be here. He's going to be a workhorse capableof putting up 230 IP seasons with ERAs under 4.

If Lariona returs as 75% of what he was last year, I'll take it!

Gotta go with Felix even though I feel Liriano has the best stuff.

Felix Hernandez,I think has the best upside. But you probley can't go wrong with any of these.
