No one here said he was a hall of famer. Sorry. But over the last 7 or 8 years he's been one of the most consistent catchers in the majors. Yes 7 or 8 complete years...him and Pudge...all appologies to Mike Piazza

Find me a CATCHER who has been consistently as productive offensively as Posada has over the last 7-8 years. That's why he is great. Paul Lo Duca is good. Jorge Posada is great.

He's not overrated. Players should be judged by their peers and since Posada has been a starting catcher in this league he has been top 2 or 3 each year all around. No one is overrating him because he has been setting the world on fire with his bat -- he's obviously overacheiving a bit right now but he brings a lot more to this team then people realize. Also, if he goes down -- Wil Nieves is our C. Think about that for a moment folks. Even if they bring in someone else available how would they replace Posada. He's such a key to this team.

Nerd alert: WARP3* comparison ahead

Derek Jeter:

2000: 7.4
2001: 7.2
2002: 6.5
2003: 4.7
2004: 8.2
2005: 11.8
2006: 12.0
2007: 9.3

Jorge Posada:

2000: 10.5
2001: 7.0
2002: 8.4
2003: 10.1
2004: 8.1
2005: 6.2
2006: 8.8
2007: 7.6

*WARP3 factors in defense, which slightly inflates Jeter

Posada, in my opinion, is well on his way to getting his number retired in monument park. If he can give us 2-3 more years of above average offensive production, I see no reason why he shouldn't be in Monument Park.

I've watched about 100 Yankee Games a season since Jeter and Posada came into the league. I don't need a Red Sox fan to bring up some ridiculus stat like Vorp to tell me where these two stand. Jeter has been consistently the best shortstop in the league over the last 11 years. And over the last 7 or 8 Posada has been right there at catcher.

Yeah, hi. I just said that. Like last page. Maybe you should pry yourself away from the YES network and brush up on your reading comprehension.

this is how you prove a player's worth. you do not use all-star game appearances.

and just for the sake of comedy: 34celtic, what do you think is the "best" stat in judging a player's worth to his team?

He believes that his eyes are the best way in judging a player's worth to his team.

I agree with him in a way, but it doesn't mean you should just ignore statistics completely like he does.

What I'm saying is you can judge a lot more by watching a guy play tan by looking at stats. If someone goes 3-3 with an RBI, he could be just as valuable as a guy who goes 1-4, with two groundouts to the right side to advance a runer to third with one out, and a sac bunt that ends up scoring. STATS CANT RATE AT HOW SMART A BASEBALL PLAYER IS AND IN THE END YOU CAN LEARN A LOT MORE BY WATCHING A GUY PLAY THAN USING VORP, OPS, and WHIP

hahaha, sorry....I really was trying to make a point. For every stat I can give countless situations on how they can't always apply to helping a team win games.
