2011 Offseason

Post#1 » by Rafael122 » Thu Nov 10, 2011 3:13 pm

Orioles hired Dan Duquette as Vice President of Baseball Operations. He was very instrumental in building the Red Sox team that won the World Series in 2004.

Orioles have a ton of issues. Their farm system is a joke, outside of Bundy, Machado and Schoop they really don't have anything come up the pipeline. The starting rotation is horrendous, guys like Britton and Matusz, people we thought were going to propel the Os into contention have flamed out.

I think this team needs to make an impact signing, either by getting Prince Fielder or someone of that ilk. He fills a need, power hitting first basemen and he would put butts in the seats. They also need a left fielder, as well as a third basemen if they decide to move Reynolds to first.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

O's have made some minor league signings: Miguel Socolovich, Steven Tolleson, and Matt Antonelli.

It looks like Jim Johnson may be moved to the starting rotation.

They also signed Korean reliever Chong Tae-Hyon to a 2 yr/$3.2 million deal.

O's traded for Jai Miller from the Oakland Athletics. I believe he will be AAA depth or maybe the fourth outfielder.

They also non-tendered Luke Scott but may want to bring him back at a lower salary.

Biggest move of the offseason so far is signing 26 year old Taiwanese pitcher Wei-Yin Chen. He was rated the 19th best free agent on Keith Law's top 50 free agents for the offseason. 4 year deal worth $12 million with a club option for a 5th year. Dan Duquette is trying to get in on the international market.

Right now, and I'm guessing the rotation is going to look like this:

1. Guthrie
2. Arietta
3. Britton
4. Matsuz
5. Chen

There's still Tommy Hunter, Dana Eveland (probably best fitted for a bullpen spot)

O's trade Jeremy Guthrie to the Rockies for Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom. Um....questionable trade for sure.
