According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Indians are on the verge of acquiring Bobby Abreu.
The Indians have been looking for outfield help all spring. And while Abreu isn't much of a defender anymore, he should represent a slight upgrade on the offensive end for Cleveland. The 38-year-old outfielder is owed $9 million this season, though the Angels are likely to eat most of that.

Man, big money being thrown about lately. Cain gets big money in San Fran: 5 yr ext. for $112.5 mil, And Votto in Cincy. Votto's deal is 4th biggest ever: 10 yr and $225 mil. Wow!

Re: Around The League News And Rumors (Non-Braves)
Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Thursday that he's confident a contract extension for Brandon Phillips will be done in a week.
Very interesting. Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio reported Thursday morning that the Reds were only willing to give a four-year deal, but we're guessing the impending free agent will likely want something close to Dan Uggla's five-year, $62 million deal with Atlanta. Right on the heels of the Reds signing Joey Votto to a massive $225 million extension, it would be quite a statement if they were also able to lock up their second baseman.

Are you trying to watch it on MLB.TV or ESPN 2? If it's MLB.TV, it'll be blacked out because it's airing on ESPN and any game on ESPN is blacked out on MLB.TV. If it's ESPN 2, weird.

ESPN 2
Apparently we had an MLB Extra Innings free preview today that was not well advertised, I caught the end of the game on the Reds feed.

Marlins suspended manager Ozzie Guillen for five games for his recent comments regarding Fidel Castro.
The Marlins levied the suspension after Guillen recently told Time magazine he "loves" Castro and respects the Cuban dictator for staying in power so long. Guillen has already apologized for his comments, but will do so again at a press conference in Miami on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. ET. MLB is reportedly looking into the situation, but it's not known if Guillen will face further punishment.

I knew he'd get suspended at some point with the Marlins just didn't think he could get it done in five games. What a moron.

Care you predict how many perfect games/no-hitters will be thrown this season?
I say three.

I love watching Yu Darvish pitch. I rarely consider myself a fan of players (very few), but Darvish has my attention, and that's rare for me.

Dodgers in 'serious talks' with Bobby Abreu
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Dodgers are in "serious talks" with the recently released Bobby Abreu.
Heyman cautions that "details need to be worked out," and that there are "several other teams showing interest, too." Abreu was cut loose by the Angels last week, but he's not completely done, so we're not surprised he appears close to finding a job already. The 38-year-old would figure to see some starts in left field while also providing a bat off the bench.

Wow. Hate to see Rivera's career end on a torn ACL while shagging fly balls in batting practice. Was likely to retire at end of the year, and his season is now done. What an amazing career this guy had for the Yankees. Greatest closer the game has ever seen.

Re: Around The League News And Rumors (Non-Braves)
Hamels is such an idiot. It's one thing to plunk someone in rataliation, but another to do it first and call it a "Welcome to the Major Leagues". And it is totally idiotic to admit you did it to the press. Wonder if the big boys up at HQ are going to sit his butt down for a few game and fine him? Dont really see where they have any option. Let this one slide, and they have to let future ones slide.

The Nationals will be gunning for him the next time they face him. I guess Hamels forgot he has to bat in the NL.
