I was just coming to post that Strassburg. I hope Bowman is right. Jason Stark was the one who first started the "Braves are out of looking for starting pitcher" stuff, and Stark is usually not so blatantly this off base. Could be Wren throwing out a smokescreen to throw people off of what he is doing. Anyway, still have a few days to see what happens. But we do need something. I hate thinking we are relegated to a WC spot with this much time left. But the Nats are showing NO signs of slowing down. We need to stay within shouting distance so we can make up ground when we next play them.

Well, when Liberty Media is your owner and they continue to decrease the payroll, it's hard to get players like Greinke.

No truer words will be spoken. I end my prayers every night that some billionaire will offer enough money to buy this team. A single owner who cares enough about winning not to focus solely on the bottom line of how much money they can make. I was really hoping Mark Cuban would make a push for the Braves, but alas, it wont happen.

From MLBTradeRumors,

The Braves are still looking to upgrade their rotation, reports MLB.com's Mark Bowman. The Braves have shown interest in Edinson Volquez and James Shields, though Bowman notes that a less-pricey pitching option like Rays right-hander Wade Davis could fit Atlanta's needs. Multiple teams have asked about Davis, though he's pitched out of the bullpen all season and wouldn't be able to immediately help a team looking for a starter.

They are asking a ton for him. And with his history of health issues, no one is going to pay their price. That is whay I have been hearing. Of course, he looked pretty darn good against Atlanta the other day. And I think they would be reluctant to trade him in the NL East and have to face him a few times each season. But if they had a fire sale, and we could get him cheap, then I think it would be a great move.

Josh Johnson has been suspect this season, he has a high ERA, and is being paid just over $13 million. I read that we're interested but the price is extremely high.

Tommy to the DL for his back. So Medlen will still stay in rotation

I meant to post something about this in this thread, I put it in the wrong thread, the game thread.

Hanson placed on 15 day DL, with a lower back strain. Cory Gearrin called up. Medlen will stay in the rotation until Hanson comes back. So for the next 2 weeks, Hudson, Sheets, Maholm, Minor and Medlen will be the rotation.

Randy Wolf has been released. We have showed interest in him during the past. For the most part, Randy has been terrible this season.

The Tigers announced that they have acquired right-hander Greg Ross from the Braves (Twitter link). The move completes the August 31st trade that sent Jeff Baker from Detroit to Atlanta for a player to be named later.

Ross, 23, spent the 2012 season with Atlanta's Class A Rome affiliate, posting a 4.60 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 in 131 innings. The 2011 18th round selection started 21 games, pitching out of the bullpen in four others.

Baker, 31, has appeared in ten games for the Braves this month, mostly as a pinch hitter and pinch runner. He has a career .295/.344/.499 batting line against left-handed pitching. MLBTRADERUMORS.com
