No wonder Bill Shanks was so excited about his promotion. Kid is a freak. Let's hope he keeps his head on straight.

Also glad to see Dustin Peterson finally getting back to where he was headed last season. He's 17 of 36 this month, so far. Don't be surprised if he's the Braves 4th OFer next season.

The Gwinnett Braves are going to be re named. It's currently a contest to name them and some of the options are, the Gwinnett Buttons, Gwinnett Lamb-chops, Gwinnett Sweetteas, Gwinnett Hushpuppies, and a few more. Face PALM!!!

Speaking of Danville... watch William Contreras. He's not currently in the Braves top 30 lists, but he's gonna shoot up quickly. He was already regarded as a good defensive catcher (in a family of catchers), but now he's hitting the hell out of the ball - at 19 years old - with a 1.015 OPS in 88 plate appearances. One stat that got me happy - 15 walks vs 11 SO's.

Pretty cool to look at yesterday's Guinnett boxscore and see 19 year old Acuna get 4 hits - including a homer - now OPSing .941 at AAA and 20 year old Albies going 2 for 4 with his OPS now at .777 - knowing they're both outstanding defensive players.

The Braves have an MLB best, 9 prospects in the new top 100 released. Acuna has unseated Albies as our top prospect. Kyle Wright is now listed in our top list, coming in a #4. Our first round pick in 2014 OF Braxton Davidson has dropped out of our top 30 list.

Wren really blew it with some of our first round picks. It's no surprise that our farm system was barren after taking Lucas Sims, Jason Hursh, Braxton Davidson, Sean Gilmartin with first round picks. I really like him before, but I'm so glad he's gone now.

Holy hell, you're right! Forgot about the others. None of them amounted to anything. Braxton is still young, put hasn't moved on the prospects lists and I've read he has weight issues.

Actually Hursh was a 6th round pick. But look below at the wasted opportunities by Wren and his staff.

2011 - Sean Gilmartin. One pick later, could have had SS Joe Panik. 12 picks later, could have had Jackie Bradley Jr. 15 picks after Gilmartin, could have had Michael Fulmer. :banghead:

2012 - Lucas Sims. One pick later, could have had Marcus Stroman. 20 picks later, could have had Lance McCullers Jr. :banghead:

2014 - Braxton Davidson. One pick later could have had Michael Kopech.

Anybody see the inside the park grand slam that our Gwinnett team allowed?? Horrible play on the ball by the CF, even more horrible play by the catcher tagging the final runner, the ball beats him to the plate by a mile.

About the Atlanta Braves and trades, we should know never to say never. About the possibility that they might include Ronald Acuna in a deal for Oakland’s Sonny Gray, I’ll eliminate all wiggle room and say …

Never.

Acuna's the best player in baseball’s best farm system. He has moved up twice [in the minors] this year, and he has gotten better at every stop. Oh, and he’s 19.

There’s a real chance he could be starting for the big-league Braves on Opening Day 2018. He wouldn’t be at Gwinnett if the Braves were slow-tracking him.

No, not every prospect pans out. Dansby Swanson is no longer starting. Jason Heyward has become a solid all-around player, but he’s not a superstar. (Though he’s paid like one.) But we need to note the velocity in Acuna’s rise. In the spring of 2016, he wasn’t on any Top 100 lists; today he’s in everyone’s top 10.

Gohara's AAA start didn't go so well:
4.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 5K

Swanson had a hit and a BB.

Acuna had a 3B (2 hits).

D. Peterson had two 2Bs (3 hits).
