It'll be harder to stay there once Swanson and Albies are no longer considered prospects. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ronald Acuna jumping up to #1 on the Braves list at some point.

Swanson is gonna graduate on opening day, Albies due to his injury will probably stay a prospect into next year (due to his age and the Phillips signing, with would be smart to limit his ABs to make sure we don't cheaply lose a year of team control on him).

You mentioned Acuna, and along with him Maitan looks poised to shoot up the rankings.

I understand your logic there with Albies, but I'd rather the team not make getting an extra year of team control an issue. I'd like him to go to Atlanta when they think he's ready. Phillips is simply a place-holder that they're paying very little to keep. And Albies' injury shouldn't be that much of a factor - latest report I saw was that he could be ready for game action by the middle of next week.

Mike Siroka showing why he's regarded as one of the Braves' top pitching prospects. 19 years old and nailed it in his first AA game this year. 5 innings, 2 hits, no runs, no walks, 7 SO's. He's got what some of the older prospects need to improve on - control. Plus, he's added some meat to those bones - he was listed at 6'4 195 last year; now I see him listed at 6'5 225. He's a keeper, and you can bet other teams will be making significant offers for him.

Allard and Soroka are 19 and dominating AA.

Alex Jackson has 6 homers already for our Florida affiliate. This guy is raking, another steal by Coppy!

Ryan Howard had two hits and a BB Saturday night in his Braves AAA debut. Hopefully he keeps it up and is on our bench soon and Bonifacio is well somewhere else.

Max Fried fired seven dominant innings, allowing just one hit and one walk, to earn his first win for Double-A Mississippi. The 23-year-old lefty struck out six while throwing 48 of his 77 pitches for strikes.

Gotta like the Jackson trade for both teams. Rob Whalen's getting to start in the bigs, Max Povse is doing really well in AA, and Jackson is moving up on the Braves prospects list now with 7 homers in 74 at bats and an OPS over 1. I'm guessing a mid-season promotion to AA Mississippi is in the cards. Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but Atlanta will likely have an opening in RF next year... Looks like Atl finally got a legit power hitting OF prospect. Speaking of which, the Braves have the 5th pick in the June amatuer draft.

Btw, Ian Anderson = phenom. 29 SO's in 18.2 innings, 1.93 ERA in Rome - still 18 years old till May 2nd. I was hoping they'd pick an OFer, but Anderson was the right pick. And then they traded for the OF prospect - Jackson. Braves brass know what they're doing.

One thing that has me confused is Kyle Muller's situation. Joey Wentz went 40th in the 2016 draft, while Muller went 44th. Wentz showed some real good signs, but I thought Muller out-pitched him. Now, Wentz is in Rome - which I have no problem with, but Muller's waiting for the short season to start. I guess that's a sign of how stacked the Braves system is, but seems to me that Muller should be in Rome - unless there's some injury situation I don't know about. Oh well, he's 19 and there's tons of time for him to develop. He'll get to dominate in Danville later this year. Not to mention, 4th rounder Bryce Wilson (also 19) got a spot on Rome, and is getting it done.

Kolby Allard with a great outing last night. Making his sixth start for M-Braves, Allard, MLBPipeline No. 47 overall prospect, matched his career-high as he struck out 11 of the 21 batters he faced in six scoreless innings. The 19-year-old lefty threw a season-high 95 pitches (63 strikes), allowing just three hits.
Allard is 2-1 in 6 starts with a 1.36 ERA 7 BB 28 Ks in 33IP.

Maybe the best news on the Braves farm is Ronald Acuna. Big things were expected from him, and he's exceeding the high expectations. 19 years old and he got promoted to AA. His first 2 games at AA: 6 of 8, 2 homers and 2 steals. He's not only moving up towards the Braves #1 prospect; he might be among the top handful of prospects in baseball. How many 19 year olds hit with power at AA, and he's already got 16 steals for the season. Every stop, he's OPS'd over .800. Best Braves CF prospect since Andruw Jones.

Acuna's star continues to rise. MinorLeagueball.com had this to say back on March 27th when they revised their rankings at the end of Spring Training (obviously before his blazing hot start in AA):
****Braves prospect Ronald Acuna moved from 68th to 38th. Although there has been a lot of public buzz about him lately, this particular change was due to a tip from a trusted source. We’ll see if it pans out.

Here are the Braves they have in the top 200:
3. Swanson
10. Albies
26. Allard
38. Acuna
61. Soroka
62. Newcombe
64. Fried
75. Gohara
89. Ian Anderson
99. Kevin Maitan
123. Toussaint
149. Austin Riley
159. Joey Wentz
184. Christian Pache

If they were updating it now, I think they'd have to include Lucas Simms, Alex Jackson, and Patrick Weigel. Travis Demeritte (people are split on him) and Anfernee Seymour might make it. And Drew Harrington and Bryse Wilson are perhaps on the cusp. Kyle Muller, AJ Minter, and Dustin Peterson need to get healthy. I think all the experts agree - most talented minor league system in baseball.

Gohara (20 year old lefty) getting his first start in AA today.

And Ozzie Albies is showing his true colors - why he's the Braves #1 prospect. Yesterday, he went 3 for 3 with 2 walks and a homer. As Swanson's gone from cold to hot in the bigs, Albies done so at AAA. Albies is so hot that he's got his OPS up to .731. He's actually .870 in May. It's easy to forget - he turned 20 in January. That's why he's special. And the fact that he can play SS... helps put his trade value at an elite level. Teams that are selling veterans at the trade deadline will be begging for him. Braves need to get a legit star if they do trade him.

Brett Cumberland made the MLB.com Braves top 30 list - at 29, and look for him to gradually climb up. He's a new age stats hitter. He's hitting only a crappy .224, but he's OPSing a terrific .913. He's doing it with a crazy high walk rate (so crazy, his OBP is well over .400) and very solid power. The biggest question on him is if can stay at catcher. At 21 in Rome, he's got time to develop those skills. They like him - considering he was the 76th pick in the 2016 draft, and they gave him a big bonus to sign. Not to mention, he's a switch-hitter.

Soroka strikes out a career high 10 batters in 5.2 IP for Mississippi yesterday. He allowed 1 earned run, on 3 hits and 2 BB. Acuna and Demeritte gave Soroka and early lead with back to back HRs in the 1st inning.

The MLB draft starts in less than 2 hours - with the Braves getting the 5th pick. I know next to nothing about the players, but I'll predict the Braves pick HS Ofer Royce Lewis. Sounds like a cool name for a prospect.

I think it'll be one of these three, Austin Beck, Mackenzie Gore, Adam Haseley.
