Olney: John Lester is headed to Free Agency

We've mentioned wanting Lester in the past. He has a home here in Georgia, and could give us a hometown discount. Santana's $14.3 million will come off the books, Medlen's contract will be coming off the books, and we'll have a bigger chance of trading Dan Uggla with his contract being on the books for only one year (of course, we'll probably have to pay off half or more but it'll be worth it), and we'll be in the market for a starting pitcher with Harang, Floyd, and Santana being just one year rentals this year, and with Beachy probably needing more time to recover next season. This makes too much sense.

Teheran
Lester
Minor
Beachy (maybe not at first)
Floyd (I'd be open to re-signing him)

With Wood and Hale backing them up as pitching depth, especially with Beachy probably not 100% at first.

I would love to have Lester depending on the price.
I would like for us to have a core group longterm and not one year deals.

The Sox are going to make another offer.

He is going to want $24 million a year like Hamels and Lee and the other aces. If you are willing to pay 5 year $120 million you can have the guy.

Our pitching is overrated and needs to be upgraded that is for sure.

Teheran
Minor
Kimbrel

That is all we really have to build around. Can't trust Beachy, Medlen, Ventors, etc.

Here are some names that we should look at aquiring

Korey Kluber

Tyson Ross

Henderson Alvarez

We won't pay him that type of money.
He reserves it but I expect Boston to keep him.

We need an ace. If we are not going to pay Lester and not going to trade anything for Price we can forget getting an ace anytime soon.

He is not an Ace and never will be. Typical backwood southern ignorant thinking. Being cheap.
