Who's the better safety now, and who would you rather have on your team?

TP

He seems to be a better tackler while having comparable ball-hawk skills and man-to-man defense. His ability to read run plays and get a jump on them is superb.

But both are fantastic so you can't go wrong.

Ed Reed is truly special as a deep cover safety, his ball skills are second to none and he can cover like a shut down corner. With Ed Reed you can play a safety in the box all game and still have the ability to stop the deep passes.... Polamalu IS the in the box safety.

Nobody is more dangerous after a pick either.

You should include Adrian Wilson since we'll be seeing him and Troy in the Super Bowl.

Ed Reed has the outstanding football intelligence to go superb athleticism/skill set. He's always around the ball, whether the ball be in someones hands or in the air. Pitt did a good job of not having to throw deep near him because they would throw it short and run after the catch.

I always thought Troy was a little overated, but that was probably because of my athleticism bias. He won't wow you with beast-like plays but hes pretty consistent and an explosive tackler who is great at breaking up plays before they get started. He's really good for that defense but if put on a different defense i think he would not be seen as a truly elite safety. To sum up Troy- he's a good safety but a great linebacker

Adrian Wilson is an all around great player who can do anything- sit back in a zone, tackle, blitz, play in the box. He's big and athletic and is the leader of probably one of the best secondaries in the league (with Cromartie coming up and Antrel at the other Safety)

splittin hairs, you cannot lose with both of these individuals back there. take your pick. its win win. only fans wish to dissect and place a microscope on these 2 great players and downgrade the other. really? do we want to do that? ed is terrible because troy is good at this. troy is crap because ed is great at this. thats the road we are going with this conversation. both are great players in their own rights and should be both placed up there in a cloud, not a ladder.

Polamalu plays the run better, Reed plays the pass better.

Belichick has called Ed Reed the best safety he's ever seen.

well considering they each play at a different position and play different brands of game this thread is sort of useless....

20-6? This is another useless poll. I bet many of you voted to legalize marijuana. Because the vote is representative of 20 people who are stoned out of their freakin minds!

Polamalu is good, but Reed is GOAT level. Reed should only be compared to Ronny Lott, while Polamalu is just a decent pro bowler.

I would pick troy to be on my team. He leads a consistent defense for the past couple of years. A defense number one against the pass and number one in total defense. He is also one of those guys who would do anything to make a play. He sacrifices his body for the sake of the play doing head first tackles and other crazy stuff like that. Though that makes him injury prone at times, it still makes offenses fear him

Agreed, I'd take Polamalu over Reed because I like his game.
