lincecum vs kershaw vs david price vs strasburg

Post#1 » by TruE SExy » Thu Jul 30, 2009 12:04 pm

if these 4 pitchers were put together in the same draft, right now, who would you take first second third fourth?

kershaw was taken 6th i believe in the same draft that timmy went 10...price went 1st in another years draft, as did strasburg in the most recent one

keep in mind that kershaw is only 21 years old and already dominating like a true ace...timmy's got the headstart with the cy young, but hes 4 years older...price has been underwhelming so far this year but still has loads of potential...strasburg is supposedly the best prospect in the last decade, and thats taking into account timmy k's eye opening dominance in the minors

Strasburg, Price, Lincecum, Kershaw.

Lincecum has one flaw and that's his stature. It'll be the death of his career. He is a great pitcher, though.

I'm taking Strasburg with the number 1 pick. Of course that is trying to look past what Lincecum has proved in his career.

Looking at both coming into the big leagues I think Strasburg is the safer bet.

I don't know, man; Lincecum is really developing as a pitcher. These days, he says he can't get above 95 mph (whereas he used to peak above 97), he's starting to use his secondary pitches (especially his slider and changeup) with extreme efficacy.

It's clear we need to see a few years of Strasburg (at least 2 or 3) before we judge him, but if in that timeframe Lincecum is still a Cy Young-worthy pitcher as he's been thus far this season even with diminished velocity, then you have to maybe consider overlooking his stature.

In fairness, I made my post a year ago. I'd have to move Strasburg up now.

Lincecum, Strasburg, Price, Kershaw

Kershaw's control hasn't developed as quickly as I expected and Price is having a fantastic season. I still like Kershaw's upside more though.

I think there's a significant gap between Lincecum/Strasburg and Price/Kershaw. It may seem crazy to take ANY pitcher over Strasburg, but Lincecum has shown extended success in the majors while staying healthy. Even with his unusual stature, I think he's less of a health risk than Strasburg. Because of Strasburg's velocity, there simply aren't any historical comparables to utilize. We have no idea if he can pitch a full season every year in the majors with that kind of velocity.

Maybe, but I'd like to withhold judgment at least until Strasburg has been through the league a couple of times.

Strasburg, Price, TL, Kershaw... Lincecum's mechanics worry me longterm.
