Sox continue the vet movement add Putz & Pierre

Post#1 » by Shootdabull » Tue Dec 15, 2009 8:40 pm

Sox continue the bargin shopping in the old vet category and pick up a pair of 32 year olds in Putz & Pierre.

JJ Putz has been signed to a one year deal to help bolster the pen. If JJ can regain his old form from 2006 & 2007 Kenny has got himself quite a pick. Unfortunately Putz has battled injuries the past two seasons and has not pitched very well. He'll serve as a set-up man for closer Bobby Jenks and has upside as a closer if Jenks falters..

Recent Injury - he had surgery to remove bone chips in early June and underwent an MRI in August that showed some fraying and a slight tear in his right forearm.

Juan Pierre was obtained for two minor-league pitchers in a deal with the Dodgers. The big bonus to the sox is that the Dodgers will pay more than half of Pierre's remaining $18.5 million salary, with the Sox picking up $3 million this year and $5 million next. Pierre will bat leadoff and play left field for the Sox after sitting on the bench for much of his three season in Los Angeles. The good news is this means outfield should be decent defensivley with alex, juan & carlos. So Juan will add speed to the top of the lineup and has been a career .300 hitter. I'm have not seen who the pitchers were that we gave up but so far this looks like a decent deal by Kenny.

Excellent deal for a good older lead-off hitter that is still producing.
A plea for post scoring is a plausible Bulls plan, but plainly isn't a priority. In response to a post player's dismay about his lack of points in the paint, Paxson said.... "I'm not nearly as concerned about the offensive stuff as he is."

I'm still hoping for a Left Handed Bat at DH with some pop.

Someone that can hit 20-30 HRs and NOT be a slug on the bases.

Maybe J. Cust ???
