Make it 84-85 Again

Postby Manhattan Project on Thu Mar 18, 2010 10:07 pm

We want Martinez and Mejia on the opening day roster.
That is all.
Blue and orange everything, clearly what I'm repping
And the pressure that come with it like I'm wearing number seven

Build a team, Nets:
1- LeBron James. 60- 61- 120- 121- 180- 181- 240- 241- 300- 301- 360- 361-

martinez yes ... mejia no.

mejia on the roster would be the dumbest thing this organization would do -- not surprising though. mejia needs to be in AA to stretch his arm, the most innings he's thrown in a season was 94 ... i don't want 70 innings out of him as a reliever, i want 200 innings out of him as a starter.

and before you bring up guys like pedro, santana, wainright, etc they've all thrown 150+ innings in a season, they could take the load. relievers are guys who aren't effective as starters where as mejia has a career 2.8 era as a starter in the minors.

his goal should be 140 innings and then 190 next year WITH the mets AS a STARTER. if you want him to come up then if the mets are in it during august you call him up for 25-30 innings out of the bullpen. this isn't some pitching prospect with 1 good pitch, this is a pitching prospect with ace stuff ... mets shouldn't screw it up even though they will because that's the mets ... nothing goes right.

Relievers turning into starters with success are rare and something that really shouldn't be attempted much. I'm interested to see Morrow this year with that...

However everything I read and see I like his stuff. I know that as Met fans we have to be patient with young arms since we don't want anything like Generation K again, but still Mejia is real easy to get behind. All of the support that he has gotten thus far has been amazing.

Honestly at this point Escobar, Nieve, Niese, Figs and Parnell don't excite me at all as the fifth starter. I just think if you have the stuff to pitch, then pitch. I really can't stand this coddling of pitchers.

he'll be up sooner or later, let him face AAA pitchers which is filled with AAAA pitchers who are a little bit better than pitching prospects and then bring him up by may/june. normally you'd like murphy to have a good year and then trade him ala wright/wigginton thing in 2004.

but mets have bigger problems, they're on the verge of stunting the development of their best pitching prospect since gooden. who cares if they can get mejia for 200 innings, lets get him now at 60 innings and never give him a chance of stretching out his arm.

it's a shame, mejia has a great work ethic and doesn't get tired ... he hits mid 90's deep in the game and last june hit 101 mph on the gun in the 7th.

oh well guess our top pitching prospect is now kyle allen and while he isn't chopped liver, he's just not jenrry mejia.
