Jordan never fully understood basketball. He had the lowest basketball IQ of any NBA "superstar" in history.

My yearly post here, just to say how great it'll be getting a superstar-caliber player from the draft rather than through free agency. WOW

i am super super happy. All along i'd hoped we'd have more legit conversations about who we could draft after we figure out our position and we got first place! we can talk about any player now being ours in the draft!
Yesterday I helped this homeless boy, took him to a fruit shop and bought him food. In my head I said i should be doing this more often but also said I don't feel I need any reward for it, but said hey god if you do want to give me back something make sure we get a good draft position in the lotto. We got first!!!
we got first!!! lebron went out of playoffs quick and may leave cleveland, Caron and Haywood and Jamison did nothing in the playoffs, we got about 20 mill in cap space and an emerging andray blatche, a finally rehabbed gil who can be kept or traded and really good free agents on the market for a change, it's like every single thing is working for us.

It's funny that DS wound up being more useful to the Mavs in the Finals than Haywood or Caron.

I'm not that surprised. DeShawn doesn't like Lebron. Stevenson's the type to raise up in big moments and make the most out of little talent. DS was big today.

I'm so satisfied with the NBA right now it's incredible. They can strike now.

I'm also done hating on Lebron. He got what he had coming and there's really no need to pile on.

Yeah, I found my hate kind of petering out throughout the series. Stranger still, I found it being transferred to Wade. Every time he hurled himself across the court as if he was shot out of a cannon - only to have the replay show his was barely (if at all) touched, I wanted to yell at my TV.

There just shouldn't be any place for that in the NBA. I hate the acting, flopping, whining. I hate the pump fake / get the guy in the air / jump at a 45 degree angle to force contact and get a shooting foul. I even hate the run to a spot and plant to get a charge move if the "defender" makes no play on the ball whatsoever.

Those moves have nothing to do with scoring or defending, they are only there to get a whistle. The league really should cut that out and tell guys to man up and play, they won't be getting any bailouts any more.

I think the league should go further than telling guys to cut out the flopping. The refs are going to continue getting burned by it because it will often be impossible to tell the difference between a guy getting hit and a guy pretending to get hit. But, it's apparent on video. So...the league should fine and suspend floppers. They might get an advantage during the game, but if they have to start coughing up money and sitting out games, the behavior will stop.

I'd make the penalty stiff:

1st offense: $10k and a 1-game suspension
2nd offense: $25k and 2 games
3rd offense: $50k and 5 games
4th offense: $100k and 10 games

I'd also consider fining teams and/or coaches. It's **** watching guys like Wade and Lebron pretending to get fouled.

^ Not sure it has to be that severe. I'm also not sure they could negotiate that into the new CBA. What about still reviewing the game after the fact for flops but retroactively assessing technicals? IIRC techs already come with fines, and the flops would contribute to individuals earning suspensions based on the current rules surrounding technical fouls.

LR and Kev, I love those ideas. I just can't stand it when a guy makes a "play" for the sole purpose of getting a whistle that he would never do in any other situation. Fine the floppers - and they will stop.

The single performance that changed my entre opinion of a guy more than any other was Dikembe vs. Shaq in the Finals. Mutombo was giving up about 80 pounds, but never backed down and never flopped. He took so many body blows from Shaq (should have been called offensive fouls) but never once flailed backwards looking for a call. He even said afterward that he was swallowing blood (didn't want to have to go to the sidelines) because he effectively got punched in the mouth over and over. And this was in the Vlade era when flopping was becoming an art form. My respect for Dikembe went through the roof after that series.

Another change I would make is - the defender has to have his feet set before the offensive player leaves his feet. I hate to see a guy go in the air toward the basket, have another player undercut him to try and get position - while the guy in the air has basically no chance to change his trajectory. And then to get called for a charge? Not right. Plus, DaSean Butler lost an entire career (potentially) for that one play. Get rid of it.
