That sucks the big one, I wanted to give Yi a shot here, oh well. My order of preference,

1. Amare for 4 yrs
2. Dirk for 4 yrs
3. Frye for 4 yrs

No Lee, No Beas. Boy, Yi must suck as bad as Nets' fans say!

I disagree with those that are saying to sign a lesser player Steve Nash wants to win and until he retires the Suns should give him the chance and Sarver wants that anyway so we won't be signing anyone that makes us mediocre long term !

yah, a player like frye sucked in other systems, we made him what he is right now. a poor center but a good three point shooter. i expect him to stay. maybe he learned about his years in por and nyk, and again, no dirk for phx unless we could sign to the mle.

Watch this. Amare walks, Dirk comes in and S&T, Frye is re-upped. Look at this lineup and think how hard it might be for other teams to guard:

Nash
Richardson
Hill
Nowitzki
Frye.

We wouldn't need to have anyone inside the 3-point line. We would have 2 shooters over 6'11", who will be able to guard them out there? It would be like a game of monkey in the middle having Dirk and Frye pass to eachother on the perimeter. Not saying this is my preference by any means, just saying it might be fun for a laugh to see what other teams might try to do.

Azsports77 wrote:Gambo and Ash seem to think if Amare turns down a deal that gives him more money that other teams can pay him for four years then the consensus is that they will go hard after Dirk Nowitzki . The reason Dirk can only land a four year contract due to the 36 rule he is currently 32 years old and the NBA doesn't allow a player to sign a contract that runs longer than his 36th birthday . Dirk just opted out and I believe that reuniting with Steve Nash would be hard for Dirk to turn away from especially if they have Steve Nash talk to him. This is why the Suns don't want Lee they want someone who can help them win a title and Dirk does have some abilities that can get you there that Amare doesn't have even if he is a jump shooter. Dirk can get a max offer of 4 years 91 million gee that's ironic its close to what Sarver is offering Amare right now ! :o

Larry Coon wrote:Suppose a player is nearing retirement, and he wants to finish his career with a team that can only offer him their Mid-Level exception. If they want to give the player more money than the Mid-Level exception would allow, then there is a potential loophole they could exploit by signing a contract for more years than they expect the player to play.

For example, suppose the Mid-Level exception is $5 million. With 8% raises, a four-year contract would total $22.4 million. But if they added a fifth year to the contract, the total salary would be $29 million. If the player retires after four seasons and continues drawing his salary for the additional season, he will effectively be paid $29 million for four years' work. In essence, they are giving the player a four year contract with additional deferred compensation.

This loophole is closed by the Over-36 rule.

Certain long-term contracts that extend past the player's 36th birthday are deemed Over-36 contracts. In an Over-36 contract, the presumption is that the seasons at the end of the contract are likely to come after the player retires. Therefore, they are classified as deferred compensation as described above. This is significant because deferred compensation is charged to the salary cap in the year it is earned, not the year it is paid.

The contract itself can run longer than 4 years, but any amount of money owed to the player in salary over the seasons past his 36th birthday on a long-term contract is simply amortized over the years preceeding his 36th.

By way of example, say the Mavericks offer Dirk a 6-year, $60 million deal. For salary cap purposes, it would be reflected as though he was making $60 million over the first four years ($15m a year) although he would still only be getting paid $10m per year.

if dirk wants to play alongside nash..........

hmmmm... with NJ poised to sign 2 max or 3 big deals..... may be this is an opportune time to blow it up here and unite Dirk and his man-bo Nash... Its easier than us trying to do it in Phnx.... and I am sure Nash would welcome it.

Trade Nash + Hill to NJ for Harris, Favors, and Humphrey + future 1st
NJ signs Dirk, Heyward and Gay?
We let Stat go on to greener Ps

In a yr , we snag a lotto and shed close to 20 mill in salary. No pressures on our youngsters except to improve. Lock out follows anyway.

Pipe dream or bad dream, who knows...... The possibilities are endless with so many teams having only half of their rosters filled.

This off season will have more player movement than any other ever..... and the big winners will be the NBA jersey retailers as fans will be scrambling for their new team threads. You know NeverFear would have to NETS it up.

According to Broussard, if Bron/Bosh choose to go Chicago instead of Miami, and then it's more likely it's BOOZER going to Miami with Wade. They're close friends.

Which means, Amare's options are NY, NJ and PHX. If he goes to NY I assume it's with JJ.

And who do we sign and trade for Dirk? Unless you move Richardson salaries don't even come remotely close to matching.

According to Gambo and Ash, the offer is 4 years , begining with the 17.7 of the next year, with increases of 10.5 %.
Resume - 82.7 millions over 4 years, is an extension ala Gasol but with a little more money.

2010-11 - 17.7 m
2011-12 - 19.55 m
2012-13 - 21.6 m
2013-14 - 23.85 m

So first you say there's no way we trade Nash, then you say we'll never get Favors, now they're both in the same deal. Interesting. Just face it all my trade scenarios are finally getting to you.
