The Amazingly Sucky Andray Blatche Thread

Post#1 » by FAH1223 » Thu Nov 18, 2010 3:02 am

I see the resurgence thread and the memories of last season bring to mind a completely different player.

Blatche this year is looking lazy, lethargic, and fat on the floor. We know he had the foot injury, we know he couldn't get so much in terms of cardio, BUT C'MON ON! There is absolutely no fire, no effort to fight for position in the post, and turnovers are the most automatic part of his game.

Our best big has now become our biggest liability on the floor and it is very disappointing... we're gonna have to wait months before he makes the next step

Yawn, what do you expect playing the best defensive team in the league? Besides a couple lemons dropped by Blatche this season he's been reasonably productive. All his bad games were in blow outs on the road to stellar defensive teams. This Wizard team just isn't ready to be competitive in those situations. There are plenty other things to complain about besides Blatche.

Nope, that's not how we roll around here - we each pin it on one particular guy. Some take Blatche, some take Kirk, but ya know what? I'm blaming Lester Hudson.

Its really disappointing to see how much he's regressed on defense. It's like he's lost interest in it now that that Tawn is no longer a threat to his playing time and he's really got no one to challenge him for minutes at that 4 spot. He just looks downright lazy out there at times, its really frustrating to watch. Offensively, i know the foot injury is holding him back somewhat. But if that's the case, he should understand his limitations and try and contribute in the flow of the offense, instead of forcing tough jumpshots and committing stupid turnovers.

Dray is currently top 5 overall among all starting PF's in the league in FG attempts. Yet among the top 10, he's 8th in FG% and 9th in FT attemtps (and this isn't inculding today's shocker):

1) Andrea Bargnani - FG (7.3/17.2) 42.3%. FT Attempts Per Game - 4.6
2) Luis Scola - FG (9.0/17.0) 52.9%. FT Attempts Per Game - 6.2
3) Amare Stoudemire - FG (7.6/16.5) 46.4%. FT Attempts Per Game - 7.5
4) Dirk Nowitzki - FG (8.7/16.1) 53.8%. FT Attempts Per Game - 6.3
5) Andray Blatche - FG (6.8/15.7) 43.3%. FT Attempts Per Game - 3.6
6) LeMarcus Aldridge - FG (7.1/15.5) 45.7%. FT Attempts Per Game - 4.0
7) Kevin Love - FG (6.3/15.3) 41.3%. FT Attempts Per Game - 5.9
8) Paul Millsap - FG (8.9/14.7) 60.5%. FT Attempts Per Game - 4.7
9) Kevin Garnett - FG (6.6/13.3) 49.6%. FT Attempts Per Game - 2.9
10) David West - FG (6.6/13.1) 50.0%. FT Attempts Per Game - 3.7

He's also 2nd overall among all PF's in the league in Turnover's Per Game (behind only Amare).

At first I considered it an over-reaction, but Dray's defensive intensity is making this thread necessary.

As someone who  at this thread originally, I'd have to admit that Blatches play recently has been embarrassingly bad. Let's hope he's hurt.

This thread is ridiculous but Blatche needs to sit down and get his head & body right.

I think he shoots too many jumpers because he's afraid of getting his stuff sent in the post. I think he finesses everything around the basket because he struggles to finish strongly. I think he doesn't rotate on D because he doesn't think he can get there in time to defend the shot.

The fact is he's become incredibly slow. Even his post moves are very slow. Everything he does right now is in slow motion. I'm worried about his knee & his foot. It's obvious to me that he's not right physically.

Blatche threw a turnover to Lebron James during the first half vs the Heat and he didn't move one inch while Lebron went full court to get fouled. No one said anything. That is why Flip and Blatche will never win a championship in the NBA.

Blatche makes one or two good plays and then 5 dumb*** plays. He's been doing this all season and I don't care what his situation was during the offseason he looks out of condition. He doesn't take quality shots, he's lazy as hell and soft at a position where you can't compete playing that way.

There is no way I can see Blatche the way he is competing at a high level in the playoffs.

For the time being the team is stuck with him and that's not a bad thing due to the fact I think he'll get better.

I don't think he has it in him to reach his potential and I wouldn't want to go to battle with him when it's really on the line. That said, he's a good value at his contract and that lends itself to trade possibilities latter on in his career.

Blatche bailed us out numerous times on offense today. I won't deny he takes bad shots on offense, but so does every single player on this team.

Blatche's real issues this season have been defensively. He looks noticeably slower, and I can only conclude it's to still being injured and being unable to get back into shape. I still say he sits for a game or two if Yi comes back just so he can rest up.

But really, the hate for him is getting a little outrageous.

it's all that hype around him being the 48th pick and all. he'll just never be able to live up to those expectations.
