Trade Deadline

Postby Master Shake on Mon Feb 13, 2012 1:22 pm

I figured we needed an official trade deadline thread, and we can post all kinds of our ideas in here for the trade deadline that is 34 days away from today. Even talk about other teams moves and propose deals for teams other than the Pistons...

Most free agents that signed this off-season will be eligible to be traded March 1st, but there are exceptions like the restricted free agents from last season, and those who had offer sheets matched.

Another exception from Marc Stein's mouth:
PPS -- The contact extensions signed by Denver's Arron Afflalo and Detroit's Rodney Stuckey happened too late for either to be trade eligible this season, since March 19 (four days after the trade deadline) is when the restrictions on their respective contracts are lifted.

PPPS -- There are two more players who signed as free agents in January who don't become trade eligible until shortly after March 1: Dallas' Yi Jianlian (March 6) and Golden State's Nate Robinson (March 4). Players who sign after Jan. 16, such as the Clippers' Kenyon Martin, cannot be traded this season.

So no moving Stuckey even if we wanted to until this summer... bummer, was hoping to get some interest in him, but he's probably not moveable at this point.

And a side note of course, all Charlie Villanueva deals are welcome in this thread, but I reserve the right to call anyone who proposes one an idiot.

I thought about this and came up with this conclusion based on deductive reasoning involving recent years, what Pistons have to offer and Joe Dumars.

There will be no trades prior to the trade deadline. Sorry folks.

Lakers stole Shaq, so Magic gave them Dwight!

I thought the Magic fired Otis!

You are probably correct, but it doesn't mean we can't see a small Bynum deal or something like that. With Walker D. around and still playing Bynum could be an odd man out and a team making a playoff push needing point guard help could come calling.

More than likely just a salary dump on our end though.

I think its a moot point.

Stuckey has been injured most of this year and I doubt Dumars would be prepared to deal him this soon for anything we could get for him anyway.

I'd be very surprised if there were any large trades made by the Pistons during this season. I'd obviously love to see one of our horrible contracts moved out, but I'm just not seeing it.

I actually like the Stuckey/Knight back court. Both work well together. Knight is more of a shooter while Stuckey is more of a slasher/attack the basket type player. I think it could work out for the Pistons next year. Plus I love having both my guards being able to carry the ball up court.
When a good hip player meets lotto team, your Pistons give us this gem:

1- I think Steve Nash will become a Pacer or Magic.
2- Pistons will make some smaller move. Will Bynum is who I'm thinking.
3- The Knicks and Lakers will be a part of dozens of seperate rumors and be lucky to get something big.
4- The Hornets and Bobcats will at least make one trade each.

Geez, what could the Bobcats even do? That team is SO bad and has nothing to offer anyone. Take on a mediocre vet at a huge salary?

I sure hope so because Will Bynum is a better player than people give him credit for and he could truly flourish as a good 15-25 mpg backup with some lucky high tempo team. I would trade him just to give him that chance.

I would do Ben Gordon for Mo Williams and Ryan Gomes. I think that is a fair trade now that they are in a dire need of a shooting guard. We get out of BG's contract early. Thoughts?

^If we're going to trade Gordon, why not trade him to the Jazz where Gordon can start and help them make the playoffs...They have a 10mil trade exception and we take back CJ Miles expiring contract...

I'd do it, but would the Jazz? What interest would they have in BG? And the trade I suggest involves both expiring contracts coming back. I don't think it gets much better than that.

There is a very good chance that the Clippers will sign J.R. Smith to a one year contract. They have no need for Gordon and his bloated contract. Even if they fail to sign him, I'm sure they'd choose to run with Foye and Mo rather than commit to Gordon's contract.

I agree. But there is a better chance that J.R. signs elsewhere than the Jazz wanting BG. That's all I was saying.

Not to mention Eric Bledsoe is coming back from injury, another solid guard they can plug in there.
