JR Smith's Player Option

Postby Luigi on Wed Apr 25, 2012 9:46 pm

Hey Knicks fans.

Do you think Smith is going to leave his 2.5M player option next year and try out free agency?

He'd be a fool to take the option. He should be able to land a multi year deal at 4-5 million per year.

Would love to have JR next year but I don't like our chances in signing him.

Doubt it, but wished he'd take it.

Tomorrow is never promised to us. Lets worry about the offseason as it comes, but until then? Lets just enjoy this current Knicks roster.

-+- An excellent 6th man off the bench in J.R Smith.

-+- The NBA's best 3 point shooting sniper in Steve Novak.

-+- A defensive minded, high energy, grind it out, die for his team type type of role player in Jared Jeffries.

-+- An up and coming, young developing talent in Landry Fields.

-+- Last but not least... A veteran leader at the PG position in Baron Davis.

We may lose each and every one of these guys through free agency during the offseason. Jeremy Lin is a guaranteed Knick moving forward. Lets just enjoy these special Knick talents while we have them. We're on the verge of heading into the playoffs with a loaded roster.

Lets enjoy it. We'll worry about these contract situations when the time is right. Now is not the time.

It is a pretty cool roster. I wish you luck in your playoff berth.

LOL AR Smith could get 7-8 millie from another team

Perfect 6 man

If Antoni didn't completely tank our playoff chances so we had to play Miami in the first round we might've went on a nice run

Although I do still think we can, just the previous coach made it way harder

he would arguably be the second best unrestricted SG in the FA class after Ray Allen who is not spring chicken at this point. he is much better off financially becoming an FA. plus the market has no star besides Deron coming up. many teams will have money to spend. next summer will be more crowded.

He likes it here in NY hopefully he'll pick up the option and then give us a discount next offseason. Wishful thinking.

Gonna miss JR. Guy is a bonafide scorer, make no mistake about it, but his other basketball skills really get overlooked. He's a decent rebounder, gritty defender, and a good playmaker. It's funny because the guy who I think finds Novak the most is the one who's labeled a chucker.. Of all of the guys we may potentially lose next year he will IMO undoubtedly be the most difficult to replace..

He definitely deserves at least 4yrs/28milly IMO..

Financially it makes no sense for him to pick it up unless he got a career threatening injury before the pickup option date.

He's gone, he deserves more than what WC got.

A lot of scouts who watch him this year have definitely noted that he's toned down his antics, horrible shot selection, and turned up his defense.

I think he's worth much more than 4/28. He's should be worth more than WC.

Word. What teams have the cap to sign him?

Curious...

I think it depends. If a team offers him 4 years / 32 million - he might be wise to take that.

if he takes the 1 year deal with NY, he'd be an early bird player and he could get a bit more than the MLE with NY next year - so he mgiht get more if he takes it than if he leaves, so, I think it depends on what offers he gets in the off-season.

I think he is happy here.
