Patriots Draft Thread

Postby Celtics_Champs on Thu Apr 26, 2012 10:25 pm

Okay, gonna say some things here. Some of you may not like it, I'm sorry, but I over-react. This times for the good though.

Woo Woo fu.c.k.ing Woo!

Now that's a draft! I keep going back and thinking when we really first were like, "hey come on BB? What are you doing. It musta been over 5 seasons ago?" The past 5 years, draft day had been disappointing for the most part and a total tease. Then the next day you could cue the radio callers who'd rant.

Things change this year. they didnt just stand their ground, but they traded up in the first (!!!) round for a pass rusher. Then they did it again this time for a linebacker! I'll get to them after I watch more, but I love it.

Ill have more on this later. 2nd round should be fun too. 2 picks and our only ones left in the draft. How odd.

IMO, we need to grab this guy somewhere in the late rounds:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/w ... index.html

Came into school with a lot of hype (supposed to be the next Ray Lewis), would have been a high pick if he was able to declare after last season. And he didn't play nearly bad enough this past season to justify that the pundits are currently unsure if he will be drafted. He is catching way too much flak for a poor combine performance. If he was really a bad apple he would have aced his combine performance and worked the circles a bit more, and then would have shown up to camp in bad shape.

On a semi-related note, his teammate Brock Osweiler is expected to go in the first two rounds. I have followed ASU and I am not sold on him as an NFL QB.

I am really happy with this draft. Belichick is putting together a hellacious front 7.

The funny thing about the last two years is that many people forgot that BB was forced to rebuild the team. We went 27 and 5 in the regular season over those two years, and somewhere along the line people forgot what the real story was. Our ring wearing vets had to go, and a new crop of youngsters came through the door. They barely lost the SB, and are on the RISE as a team. That is saying something right there.

I wouldn't count out Bill's later picks either. The guy just has the knack of finding people, and I am sure that an unfortunate team or two will cut some guy that Bill will plug right right into our system and, in the process, make the former team look like idiots for letting the guy go. He does that almost every year.

I think the Pats have to be the favorites going into this next season. Bill never ceases to amaze me in his ability to build a team, and in his long rang foresight in evaluating players. You just have to know that he is already mentally plugging some incoming freshman into a future roster. It is just the way the guy operates.

Hahahah that's fantastic.

As for later round steals. Patriots only have 2 2nd rounders left in this draft. And with the talent level left, I'm kinda play with not trading them.

I have lost interest in the draft over the last few years at least before it happens, as I can't say I really care for college football and most the whole pre draft process is a mess information wise.

I can say that the kid Hightower is one hell of a football player, he is just all over the field and hitting the hell out of people. Just the type of guy you watch and want on your team.

Jones is the type of guy they need even though his injury history is a question mark. Really happy with what he did and will be fine with him now trading his two 2's for more picks as he morphs back into Value Bill.

Bears fan here. I wanted the Bears to take Chandler Jones. His oldest brother Arthur Jones is a defensive end for the Baltimore Ravens, and his other brother, the UFC LHW champion Jon Jones, has the potential to be the best MMA fighter of all time. Talk about crazy good genes. People share the most genes with their siblings, and Jones should be great for you guys. Once again it looks like the Patriots have done better in the draft than the Bears.

Also, if you're a Celtics fan, know that I'm rooting for your team in the first round. I want the Bulls to have a chance at avenging 2009.

Everything I'm reading is saying the talent level in this draft is going to stay high until around the end of the second round and then drop off quickly. With that in mind, I don't think I've ever been happier with Belichick's handling of a draft. If he thinks he can patch the defense up in one fell swoop, screw it, let's see him give it a shot.

The backlash against Janoris Jenkins for SMOKING WEED and HAVING KIDS WITH MULTIPLE PARTNERS is kind of ridiculous. I'd love to see the Pats give him a shot.

Edit:Shalise Manza Young from the Globe reporting the Patriots are staying away from Jenkins. So much for that.

Yeah I was just looking at him too, would love it. He seems like the spark we would need on our return game too.

They must have seen something in Wilson, since most projected him much lower, but what do we know. What about Bequette any views on him? I don't really follow much college ball, so I only have these so called pro opinions on espn and other outlets online.

Who will have that immediate impact on our team, just by looks I would have to say Hightower (love that name since it reminds me of Police Academy). Dude looks like a tank with good mobility and instincts. Wondering if he'll play middle with Mayo, or they see another position in mind.

Tavon Wilson was purportedly a team captain on an underrated Illini team. They played good defense, and of 6 losses, one was last game of the season vs Minnesota, one was late in the season vs Michigan, and in each of their other losses they outgained their opponent.

I'll give BB the benefit of the doubt here, although obviously I wonder whether we would have been better served trading the pick And taking him later.
