They should get the option to come out of high school or they have to stay two years. There is absolutely no way they should be able to force kids to go to college.

IMO this will cause the NCAA to lose more players to Europe.

The NFL does it and makes them stay for three.

While I agree, the NFL and the NBA is entirely different.

But in football, those kids really are pretty much forced to go to college if they want to move on to the NFL eventually, which supports DBs argument. There's no other consistently viable path to the NFL for a football player. It's not like they can go play in Argentina for three years.

So? You're crazy if you don't think that an NFL team wouldn't have drafted Adrian Peterson and other similar top talents out of high school.

I don't see how Stern gets this implemented anytime soon. He had his chance with the CBA negotiations last year and whiffed.

Two and done would be an awesome rule for the fans of NCAA and NBA basketball. Higher quality play on both sides of the fence. It would also help make the draft slightly more predictable, thus benefiting the lotto teams.

If some guy like Jennings wants to go to Europe, let him. I'm all for this.
When Krause said he didn’t feel that the season could be called a good one since we fell short of the playoffs, Paschke rightly reminded him that there are 14 upstanding teams that didn’t make the playoffs. Made me proud that we could be among them.

I sure don't think he would've been a top 5 pick. I'm not even sure we'd see a high schooler in the first 5 rounds.

I like the idea. It's not perfect, but it should have the net effect of improving both the college game and the NBA.

Most businesses set some form of minimum entry standards. Many of those standards (minimum age, academic degree, no drug use, etc) could be argued by some to be unfair or arbitrary, but if uniformly applied are legal, and usually have the effect of improving the quality of the workforce.

They aren't being forced to go to college. They can choose to instead play in the NBADL, or another professional league in the USA, in Europe, or anywhere else in the world.

The NBA thinks it is good for their business to hire players who have more experience than just coming out of high school, just as other companies that are leaders in their industry tend to think it is good for their business to hire employees who have more experience than just coming out of high school. That usually means college, but sometimes that can mean internships, apprenticeships, or other work experience. Would some high school graduates who were offered full scholarships to Harvard, MIT, etc. be better employees for these companies than graduates of UW Madison, Michigan State, etc.? Possibly. But most companies tend to want a little bit more proof than what the person did in their high school years.

Man, think about how a mandatory 2 or 3 years would affect the draft.. Thabeet number 2? Nope. Oden over Durant? Probably not. Potsie at 8? Etc.

Might be a good way to ameliorate the problem of tanking for a pick too. Better prospects, less risky prospects, would be available mid/late first round, so making the playoffs as an 8 seed becomes more of a purely good thing and less a mixed blessing.

Looks like treebeard said basically what I was getting at as well.

That's why I never understand why people get so up in arms about having a rule like this, as if it is horrendous thing we'd be doing to people.
