This Derrick Rose injury could very well change the look of this team starting next year. It is devastating. Never have I ever been this depressed about sports. I started this thread to speculate a bit on what this injury means to the front office. We have a few guys who will get paid this upcoming off-season. What will the front office do? Do they extend Taj and Omer and pick up the options on CJ, Korver, Brewer? Boozer(at least here on RealGm) is an amnesty option. Rip could barely get on the floor this year due to injuries. I'm sure everybody is scared that JLIII might leave for money as well.
So what do they do? Does Jerry say screw next season, let everybody go that are free agents and amnesty Booz? Does he allow Gar?Pax to re-sign the key pieces and hope Rose is ready by the end of next season to make 1 more run with these fellas?
I love this team. I love every single player. I hate watching Brewer shoot and Booz drives me bonkers at times. I am heart broken over what I think Jerry will ultimately do. He is a penny pincher and I think he will give up on next year, on this team. I hope I am wrong. I just have an awful feeling that our next window to legitimately compete for a ring might be after Booz leaves, Mirotic comes over and we draft somebody with the Cha pick.
I hope I am wrong. I hope our Bulls shock the motherf-ing world. Just curious to read your guys thoughts.

It has always come down to what Jerry will do. The Rose injury may change things but his desire to win is and has always been on Jerry and his willingness to continue to expand this team.
My guess is as good as anyone elses. Jerry could decide that we need to step back a little, liquidate or he could continue to push. We should have a poll on this later after we find out about how severe Rose injury is.

Using the amnesty on Boozer might be a mistake. We see how things change in the blink of an eye. For all we know we might end up having to use our amnesty on Derrick Rose.
Wow I can't believe I just had to type that.

I don't think Jerry would ever amnesty Rose. Not in a million years. Jerry is the same owner who still paid J. Williams after he broke his contract by riding a motorcycle.
I hope Jerry pays Taj. He has said he would pay for a championship contender. Does he still view the Bulls without Rose a championship contender? Probably not. Jerry is also the same owner(I think he owned the Bulls back then) that didn't want Jordan to finish out the season after he came back from injury. Jerry's history tells me we may never see this incarnation of the Bulls ever again.
remember guys we are probably starting next season without Rose and Deng.

If Dwight didn't want to come here last year then he probably won't come next season either. Nash would be a very intriguing pick up. He could keep the team close to championship level. He would make us way more efficient. Hopefully he would pick us over Miami.

IMO, they basically do nothing. Probably the only thing I see is Brewer being let go and replaced by Butler to reduce luxury tax. They probably let Omer go too.
I really don't see Jerry OK'ing the tax for a team with Rose in rehab.
By the trade deadline next year, the Bulls will be in a better position to see where they are. If Rose is progressing well, maybe they continue in a "win now" mode. If not, maybe they start trading stuff around for a mini rebuild.
...........
My guess? What would I do?
- Trade Boozer this summer for cheaper parts on shorter contracts. Let Omer go. Let Brewer go.
- Why? put the team in a position to win two years from now with Rose, Deng and Noah as a core and Gibson / Mirotic as complements.
So, basically, mini rebuild.

It would be more of an equal partnership with DRose now then before. He could be looked at as a saviour which is what he wants.

I dont think i have the patience for a 2 year rebuild. Swing for the fences...get Dwight. Handcuff his ass. IDC just do something.

thats exactly what i said before the post season started. But now i wonder if D12 would hesitate to come here with the question mark on Derricks knee.
I have a bad feeling this will be another excuse for Rein$dorf to stay below the lux tax.

You think Chauncey Billups would come over here to play with his buddy Rip? I forgot he was a FA. I'm sure Chauncey could handle the PG spot for half a season before handing it over to Derrick whenever he is able to come back.

I think nothing should change and we just replace Rose with a vet on the cheap with Billups. This team IMO could still win if we land the right replacement for Rose next year and I think Chauncey is that guy.
I'd go on this summer like you would of before the injury as far as Omer, Brewer, Korver goes. Which is you let Brewer walk and only keep Omer at the right price.

I put this question in another thread? Will the Bulls get an injury exception to spend for Rose's injury?
I am assuming that exception will not be a luxury tax contract...
This is a tough situation though for GarPax. We might have seen or see the best of Rip and Boozer(not their prime) this year or next. When Rose is hopefully 100% and back to his best, it will be 2013-14 season when Rip/Boozer are basketball dead

Cutting Brewer for Billups would be a nice move. Rip should be able to motivate Billups to come here. Start the season with a Billups Rip backcourt. Add Rose in later, slide Billups to the SG Spot.
Meanwhile, I'd still explore a move on trade day as well as trying to upgrade Boozer.
Resigning Asik I think is likely. This letting go talk is ridiculous. When have we ever let go of players we want? Answer = Never.
