i was just going to write that!
I hope a few years later if someone has the same injury(and i hope no one will), there would be threads about that guy D.Rose who recovered to 100 percent of his old self!

Its completely irrelevant to compare past ACL tears to one today simply because the technology in the surgery has changed. Specifically, where the graft is taken from. I had ACL reconstruction several years ago and came back just fine, and that was when the surgery was far more intrusive than it is today.

As several people have said, the real key with this injury is how hard you rehab to get range of motion back in the knee and rebuild muscle from the down time. The leg atrophies REALLY quickly. The ACL itself is completely like new once the surgery is done.

Isnt Rose renowned as a hard worker and overcome odds kind of guy?? As someone that has been through it and can speak from experience, I have no doubt Rose will be back at or very near 100%.

The guy that was recently picked #2 overall in the NFL draft came back from a similar ACL tear. And more and more athletes are coming out and showing support for Rose - including Jamal Crawford, who - despite having the injury 10 or 11 years ago - says that he fully recovered and never had any setbacks.

Could Rose still have issues? Maybe. But he's definitely got the attitude, work ethic, and youth working for him.

He has only had a sprained left knee and a bone bruised right knee. No structural damage in either case. Rose suffered a career altering injury for a guard.

Lowry tore his CAL his freshmen year at Villanova.

For Rose he uses so much explosion on his moves, that'll be the only worry for him.....how much force can he put on that knee ? And what will his lift be like ?

baron davis tore his acl in college

he also is a terrible shooter

there are few reference points to actually compare rose to because he destroys almost everyone on the list of who tore their acls

just hope it's nothing like penny hardaway's

Rose will be fine, he is too hard a worker to let something like this stop him. He might have to develop that post game a little sooner, but with how hard a worker he is, there is no doubt in my mind that he will stay productive.

while i am no doctor, i work for a pretty good orthopedic/sports specialist.. and it really just depends on the extent of the tear. the doctor i assist does 4-5 ACLRs per week. since he's a big sports fan, ill ask him what he thinks about recovery.

i *think* having a meniscus tear and doing a menisectomy is worse than an ACL tear, or meniscus tear with repair.

So many uniformed "facts" being thrown out there. Rose may not look as explosive once he returns for two key reasons. First is the mental aspect. So many athletes that return from serious lower body injuries are hesitant because they don't trust the limb affected. The key is in practice and rehab to gain confidence in said limb.

The second is something that was stated earlier, and that is atrophy of the leg. Atrophy is loss of muscle. I've seen athletes who have broken their foot and saw out three months and have the leg be considerably smaller than the opposite leg which is used for walking while in crutches and/or boot. Rose will be put through many one leg exercises to improve that strength and to through hypertrophy of that leg.

With advances in rehab and surgical procedures and technology rose may be back sooner and better than expected. But it also important that he works on the opposite leg as well. You cannot neglect the opposite side of the body. So many athletes are not confident in the injured limb that they overcompensate and put more pressure on the opposite part of the body. By doing this he gain strength necessary to take on any additional wear and tear.

I predict rose will be back to his old form by the 2014 season but 2013 is still up in the air with the main factors being success of the surgery and his rehabilitation.

On another note he needs to get rid of all those braces he wears and reconsider his equipment. While they do help stabilize the body cannot learn how to deal with the stress that is put on while doing agile movements such as cutting. without the braces the body can strengthen the areas that are being stressed. While a knee brace will be necessary right away but I would recommend ditching it once the knee is fully recovered. I also don't know if the adizero lightweight shoes are necessary or that helpful. While yes they are lighter, rose is already quick enough to blow by opponents. he needs to truly assess what is more important, advertising a lightweight shoe that supposedly makes you quicker or his lower body health and general well being.

Adam Morrison tore his ACL with nobody touching him and never looked like he trusted his knee again while playing for the bobcats. He did go on to win multiple championships with the Lakers as he regained his confidence though so I am sure D-Rose will be fine.

fyi, allograft with young people has a fairly high rate of failure (not more 50% though, but maybe 20%). my doctor just changed to taking the hamstring tendon (autograft).

I think what a lot of people are missing here is the extent of the injury plays a large role in the recovery period and how it will affect him long term.

Take my wife and her father for example. Both have torn their ACL in both knees, must be in their genes and both are/were soccer playes. After the first knee she was told not to play soccer again or risk it happening again and it tooks months before she was walking and running without pain. Her second knee was done in January and she is only just starting to walk without pain now some 3 months after the Op. Her father on the other hand had the sergury and was up and running around without pain after a few weeks. So no one can accurately say how he will be affected yet.

sure people heal at different rates.. but ACL surgeries are usually very successful. i think more often than not, failures are caused because patients don't listen to protocol. i've seen so many young people not listening to their surgeons and re-rupturing their ACLs. I also see lots of old people tear their rotator cuffs, and ignore PT protocol because they experience pain, and end up having frozen shoulders (which requires a manipulation). you also have to account for the skill level of the surgeon.

in rose's case, he has access to the best doctor's in the world. in addition to that, he's going to have the best physical therapy money can buy (i mean, those are $100+ million dollar knees).

Rose will not be running reckless like he did before though.
If I was D Rose's advisor. I would tell him to take next season off and let the ACL get stronger. Just continue with rehab. One season isnt worth your career. Also start working on mid range game so he doesnt have to use so much quickness to get by defenders

i don't think he will be back until december or january.. general protocol for ACL repairs is 6 months until he can begin light activity, and 9-12 months for full unrestricted activity.
