Ford Mock 4.0: Bucks Land Sullinger

Postby LUKE23 on Mon Apr 30, 2012 11:52 am

Analysis: Ersan Ilyasova had a breakout year for the Bucks at the power forward position this season, but he's a free agent and Milwaukee may not be able to afford to keep him. Sullinger might be a terrific alternative. He's a bit undersized, but his rebounding ability and offensive prowess make him a very attractive option at this point in the draft.

Watching Ilyasova walk to replace him with Sullinger would be uninspiring to say the least.

I may be alone, but imo this would be a boon.

Great way to bolster our defensive front.

Not....

I like Sullinger a lot but no. I'm a firm believer in BPA but PF is not a position I want to see the Bucks use their pick on unless that player has clear star potential. The last thing the Bucks need is another PF who isn't a complete player.

Failure - We would be better off giving the pick away than have another PF on the roster.

Sure Hammond talks of needing size and defensive abilty, so he picks a short grounded PF who has difficulty guarding a chair. Fail.

Watch Hammond reach for Leonard, because we need size and a center.

If the Bucks want to put the nail in the coffin of my fandom, pick Sullinger.
Brandon Jennings misses a layup.

I'm not just a big fan. I see low ceiling, him struggling mightily against length, and horrendous defensively. I also don't think you can play him with Ilyasova at all either. Not that that should matter a ton, but realistically looking to put together a team, it probably does if we keep him.

I think a Sullinger+Ersan pairing could be very good offensively but just as bad as Gooden+Ersan defensively.

I'd be ok with this.

The pickings at #12 are all going to have major drawbacks.
When Krause said he didn’t feel that the season could be called a good one since we fell short of the playoffs, Paschke rightly reminded him that there are 14 upstanding teams that didn’t make the playoffs. Made me proud that we could be among them.

The Bucks could be the first team in the NBA to have a starting 5 composed of all Power Forwards

Yeah, I don't think you could play them together, same as you can't play Gooden at C and expect to be competent defensively. I think if you land Sullinger, you have to amnesty Gooden, start Sanders, and go with something like this in the frontcourt:

PF: Ilyasova 32/Sullinger 16
C: Sanders 24/Udoh 20/Sullinger 4

Edit: and forgot Moute

Sullinger wouldn't be the worst pick ever. If he pans out, I think his skill set fits very well with Sanders and Udoh.

Those guys are both subpar rebounders at the C spot, which I think is something Sullinger will excel in. Then in addition to that I think their offensive games would compliment each other well and with Sullinger you are going to need a shot-blocker next to him.
