Steve Novack.....

Postby knicknack on Sun Apr 29, 2012 9:48 pm

How come we don't seem to have any plays run specifically for Novacain????

I'm tired of hearing every analyst and commentator label him, "The best shooter in the NBA" and we barely get him the shot attempts he deserves or what we need to win during games against great defending teams like the heat. Just baffling, you know he would love a larger, more significant role to be part of, could be the main reason (after money) why he bolts after this season.

Woodson.......do your job!!!!! You can do it!!!!

Mainly because shooting threes isn't the way to beat Miami.

There's a reason why they willing give those up than they do points in the paint.

But the bigger question is, what is Novak to do on the other side of the court while he's getting these minutes?

We need Baren David to kick the ball to Steve Novack in the corner more, Lundry Fields can look for the offensive board.

Only JR Smith (and formerly Lin) look to pass to Novak. There are some set plays for Novak though. They're run off timeouts and such, which is why we don't see them as often. I think it won't hurt to give Novak more plays when he's on the court though. However, he already averages a respectable fgm/fga per game.

I'm not sure Novak has the kind of game like Ray Allen, Reggie Miller and Rip Hamilton, who run back and forth around screens for a window for a shot. He seems more comfortable laying back and catch and shooting or fading out from a singular pick and shooting... which means you dont run very many plays specifically for him. He's like a running back outlet in football. Guys have to break down the defense or command double teams to get Novak a shot.

I definetly realize his deficiencies on defense, rebounding, shooting while moving, etc. but its time to get creative and surprise the cHeat as they did Melo with defending him this past game......we lose more games because teams surprise us with something new while we continue to be predictable.

I'm just saying, a near 50% 3-pt shooter and over 90% free-throw shooter has to be able to give us more on offense. If nothing else as a decoy at times to open up the offense and give Amare, Melo and Tyson more room to work with, and I'm not exactly talking about running down the floor at every chance and waiting in the corner, aka Fields.

Speaking of running down the court, I see way to many guys running down court before we secure a rebound on defense (one reason we often get killed on the boards), only to just wait for the rest of the team to catch up or take the ball out after a rebound and score on us. Consequently, often after a shot goes up on offense, I often see guys watching to see what happens before running back on defense. We've been playing well but we need to be a little more disciplined and focused instead of what I just mentioned as well as complaining to the refs when we don't get a call and the play is still active.

You make excellent points regarding this topic. We can do this!!! Unfortunately, if we don't people will buy into the Melo and Amare can't play together theory......this may be proven to be true, at least for this year.

they do some times run plays where he is the first option, most of the time he's on the floor he is the 2nd or 3rd option depending on what players are out there with him

unfortunately to run any kind of play you sort of need a point guard. we have 1.5 of those, and with Lin injured that leaves us with 0.5 point guards on the team in davis

If the Knicks can have someone drive to the rim and draw defenders, then pass, then yes, Novak can be of use in plays. But who actually drives to the rim often? It used to be Lin, but he's out.

Good points, the thing about though is, the only true way to beat Miami is to attack the rim, not a 3pt barrage.

Shooting jumpers plays to their hands too easily.

Don't get me wrong, I did feel Novak should have gotten more attempts considering how many minutes he got, but at most he can help keep the game close.

It will always come back to Stat and Melo dominating they way they can.
