Signature and Avatar Site Hosting Requests/Policy Thread

Post#1 » by Howard Mass » Wed May 9, 2012 10:02 am

RealGM Users,

Our new Signature and Avatar Policy has been implemented.

Users may upload Signatures and Avatars from Imageshack.US, Imgur.com, Photobucket.com and Tinypic.com

Signatures may now also be up to 550 by 90.

Any signatures and avatars that were uploaded before the implementation that are from unapproved site or are above the current Signature Size limit remain.

We ask that you change these if you have them. If myself or a Moderator sees any on the forums, they will be deleted.

If anyone has question or wishes to regain their Signature rights, please send me a PM.

Sites That Users Can Upload Signatures and Avatars From

We are going to restrict where users can upload Signatures and Avatars from to only trusted sites like Photobucket.com, Imageshack.US, Imgur.com and Tinypic.com. We will be taking suggestions in this thread and adding other trusted sites as we go along and possibly before June 4.

This change is due to various incidents where users have uploaded a Signature or Avatar from an unreliable site that then sets off the virus protection of users. These Signatures and Avatars from those sites then block off that page to some users unless they turn off Signatures and Avatars. The worst thing is users think they have a virus when they do not. By making this change, we will prevent all of this.

If you use other sites besides PhotoBucket.com and imageshack.us, please list them in this thread and we will consider adding them to the list of approved sites.

Signature Size Limit Change

Our Signature Size Limit is going to be changing and it comes with an application that will not allow any users to exceed it.

Our current Signature Size Limit is 400 by 90 Pixels.

However, we have decided to increase this to 550 by 90 Pixels. :D This will mean Signature can now be as wide as a post.

Here is an example of the new largest allowed Signature of 550 by 90 Pixels.

Image

On a final note, when these new changes are implemented on June 4, any user who has lost their Signature Rights due to an oversized Signature or past infraction may contact me via Private Message and request them back. Each request will be a case by case basis.

If anyone has any questions or concerns about these changes, please post them on this thread.

imgur.com and tinypic.com are two pretty big/popular image hosting places.

To my knowledge, 562 pixels is the width of a post. I used a 562 pixel wide signature and it fit perfectly within the post, and it was exactly the width of the post on all my devices (laptop, desktop, and smartphone).

Correct me if I am wrong about the 562, but this is what I always thought the width of a post was.

550 pixels still has some space left to fill for the width of the post, in my opinion.

Can the signature be as wide as a post (562 pixels) or only 550 pixels?

Here is a signature that is as wide as a post (562 pixels):

Compared to the 550 pixel wide signature:

Can we use signatures as wide as a post? (562 pixels). Or is 550 pixels wide going to remain the limit?

All in all, having signatures increased to 550 pixels is great, and I am happy to have those extra pixels; :) however, I would be a little bit happier using the full 562. :D

Shpati21,

I see that but 550 is just an easier number for everyone.

My suggestion: http://imgur.com/

I'll run the Verizon one by our contractor.

imgur was also mentioned above and several Moderators have requested it as well.

I'll add a yes to both of these, and I use exclusively use imgur these days as it's the most reliable and best IMO. Definitely should be added to the list

That's another "Yes" for imgur.com and tinypic.com

Please keep your thoughts coming.

I edit the size of my pictures using mspaint on my computer and then upload them to my facebook picture folder, then use the facebook link to show my avatar here.

Is Facebook allowed?

Will hosting policy changes affect all pictures (like the pictures you embed inside posts) or just signatures and avatars?

And I nominate Imgur as well. Facebook might also be a popular one (I don't use it myself but I imagine others might).

Imgur and Min.us are probably the two best image hosting sites on the internet. Imgur in particular.
