obviously a very important match that rivals the whole Euro 2012, which does not have a dedicated thread.

O'Quinn will have a longer and more successful NBA career than Nicholson. Any takers?

Hmmm...yeas, but also he's another type of player. he's not a moral leader or a captain. The kid needs a team around him. But when he has it (Now with Higuain and Aguero around him) he's a beast.
Anyway there's a long way to go, Argentina's defense and center midfield sucks. You need some players to play defense, and Mascherano really sucks.
Messi has a lot of gas left in the tank to be bigger than Maradona (an incredible player and a pathetic person) but I don't see the point of this comparisons.

Those magical stats  . Pele counts the goals he made in his mother's uterus  . Fotball was different, Santos beat rivals 9-0, 8-1. Thos scores are almost impossible on modern football.
What's the point of comparing? Pelé was a forward, a striker, Maradona was an offensive midfielder. Pelé shared the field with some incredible players, Garrincha, Rivelino, Carlos Alberto and many more, Maradona won a world cup by his own. But anyway, there have been many incredible players, many of them never won a World Cup or scored 1000 goals and they are still great, Van Basten, Platini, Cruyff...

Anyway, I like Brazil I truly respect your people. I have many brazilian friends and I love your way of living and love for futebol . We are rivals on the field but just that. BTW, no question at all, Brazil is the best football team in history. But now we have a heck of future in front of us.

Ok, man, is not about just the stats. Pele was way more a complete football player than Maradona. Pele could strike with both feet, had a better physical and could also hit headers to the goal. Pele was more of a professional player also, as Maradona was always getting in trouble, while Pele played his entire career for Santos and didnt go through the same bull Dieguito did(the Cosmos tenure wasnt significant).

Well, Messi is also a foward, even though the game is more similar to Maradona. Anyways, football is also different today compared to Maradonas time.

This guys are still great, yes, but i thought we were talking about who is the best...

I mean, we could go all day long talking about this, I'll finish here lol

Yeah man, I think that being rivals is cool, but people that take it personal are just (Please Use More Appropriate Word). I like Argentina also, have been there twice and like the argentinian people - especially las nenas, dale!

Football is one of the sports that is not really about stats.

Its actually not until fairly recently that stats have been kept comprehensively.

An example, George Best was a legend at football, but that player in todays game? terrible. That player brought up in our life time with our training, nutrition and programs, scary. You just cant compare generational players to each other, its like basketball (or any other sport).

When people watched Pele, he was just so far ahead of the game, untouchable, that in todays game, for Messi to compare, he'd have to be so far ahead of Ronaldo that it would be untrue.

Messi is unbelievably good, the best in the game right now, but Ronaldo is not that far behind. Generationally speaking, I think we could say Pele was further ahead of his peers than Messi, and like I said above, the systems were not in place back then, they didn't have the same benefits of training (lets not talk about what money means to it as well, because thats a huge factor). So we can essentially only review by their peers, and I think Pele was that much further ahead.

That said, I am glad we have them all.

There are so many ways to look at it though, and its so subjective. Its quite literally impossible to have a right answer, just a best guess and an idea for yourself, best you can do.

Damo, you definitely have a point man. I agree 100%. There are a lot of ways to enjoy and watch football and there are many tactics to win a match. There's not a magic solution.

I don't like Cristiano Ronaldo's attitude at all. I can't question his skills, he's an athletic beast with a lot of talent. But I hate his "top model" style. He prefers to score a goal more than his team's success. He scores and looks like a jerk to the camera. Lately he has changed a little and started to win with madrid. But he doesn't care about his team :(

Anyway, anyone can debate about football, but I don't see the point of looking for "the best of all time". Fortunately, there have been many incredible football players

Yeah, sure that is not about just the stats and tactics count a lot on football. But there are some things that doesnt matter what the gameplan is, you can see if the player has the ability or not to do it. Otherwise, it would be impossible to have scouts on soccer. Thats why, for example, some people say until today that teams like 1930' Uruguay and 1970' Brazil are the best teams in history. Because they had a lot of guys that could strike, pass, head, dribble, tackle, mark, everything in excellence. And yes, we cant deny that the tactics and the whole generational thing put a huge block on those comparisions.

Anyways, we are fans/players, we just like to keep comparing s*** and find what is/was good or bad. Maybe there is no point in making those comparisions or saying who was the best of all, but sports talk sometimes is just a chit-chat, we just wanna make fun of each other.
