As a physics major, I am waiting for the O-Sen to ask Nicholas his impression of the Higgs Boson, and whether 4 sigmas is "proof."

My favorite news article on the topic was titled "God found under Switzerland." Hmm.

Actually it was deemed a 5 Sigma Standard Deviation, not 4, which is basically a proof. I taught a course on basic statistics last semester. If you aren't convinced of just how accurate this level is, the basic formulas for Standard Deviation are available everywhere through a simple google search. You can crunch the numbers yourself by selecting the particular value of the sigma variable and work out the probability that these results are accurate.

Very exciting stuff in science!

As a career scientist, of course that was my point. :) I can now say that I am personally excited in that my work takes me to the ESRF in Grenoble next week (for work). I have never had to visit a synchrotron. I am sure it will be fun !!!!

We will learn a lot about what this looks like:

BTW to those reading try to understand the geek-speak, this 5-sigmas is 99.99994 percent probability of a discovery. :)

After the first game of Nicholson in Magic blue, perhaps we can say that Andrew Nicholson is already at 5 Sig's!

Somehow this reminds me to my youth and the very good show Mr. Wizard. As Nicholson is a physic major, perhaps his nickname should be " Mr. Wizard ". Thoughts?

Nicholson only has a bachelors degree, so at least you have the Mr. part correct! But a B.S. doesn't really teach you much.

Jeez, nerd alert guys :)

If Drew pans out, I can definitely see him doing something with schools in the area. Might be fun to see him at science fairs :P

My 2 cents is worth 5 cents.

I just wanted to come to the Magic board to tell you guys you got the real deal with Andrew.

He's very humblr, and incredibly hard working. He was a late bloomer, I went to elementary with him and he never made the team. In high school he was a late bloomer. and in College he never stopped working even playing on a college team many didn't know he worked his ass off everyday and carried that team.

I think you guys will be very happy with what you get, in time I see him being a Roy Hibbert player at the PF spot. Good hands, great D, post game, can hit the open shot. He'll be very good to you guys.

I like the fact that he was a chem major first, but because the labs interfered with his basketball activities, he chose something easier, physics.

almost a 4.0 GPA too.

"He's exactly what the (GTA) has been waiting for," Dawkins said. "We've been waiting for our own version of Steve Nash, a great human being who's humble. Education's a priority for him, he comes from a great family and he understands the importance of giving back."

Hopefully he demands a trade to Toronto.

Nicholson will make Magic fans forget all about Dwight Howard. Best PF in Magic history, book it.

Nicholson shouldered a heavy offensive load for St. Bonaventure (3rd highest of the 26 prospects), but still ranks as the 5th most efficient scorer overall. The fact that he was so effective with his back to the basket (5th best post scorer) and facing the basket (#1 in overall jump-shot attempts, 2nd most efficient shooter at 1.096), and with the ball (#3 in total isolation attempts, #3 in efficiency) is impressive. Nicholson is effective in pretty much every area we looked at, highlighting his extremely high skill-level.

Quotables

Draft Combine-CBS sports analyst
“Andrew Nicholson – no one looked better in the workout setting than the former St. Bonnies star from Canada. He’s so skilled – and made shots from everywhere. At one point, I watched him drill 15 consecutive shots from just about every spot on the court.”

Richmond Coach Chris Mooney
"I think he doesn't have many weaknesses. I wouldn't pick out one thing, just continuing to refine his game, continuing to help his team win and more. But I don't think there's one thing I would put on him. I think he's definitely a guy who's going to have some opportunities in the NBA."

St.Louis Coach Rick Majerus
"I saw that number 44, Henry Aaron I used to think 44, now I think Nicholson when I see 44. Obviously a first-round draft pick, probably a lotto pick... the most talented player in the league and a phenomenal personality and very unselfish. Last year he beat us with his passing skills. He has every imaginable skill you would want."

Umass Coach Derek Kellog
"If you don't double-team him, he's going for 25 and 15 [points and rebounds]. I've seen a lot of good big guys, and he's an NBA player. He's probably the most valuable player to a team in our league because of what he means to that team and that program."

Saint Joseph's Coach Phil Martelli
"Nicholson's a pro. I hope that he gets the experience of getting invited if there's going to be a draft next year, if that league ever comes back. I think that he has the potential to get his name called. He's multitalented, humble. It's not a lot of guys that can be all-league and all-defensive. I think that in our league, he's almost an impossible matchup. If you don't decide right now that you're going to double-team him and double-team him in a variety of ways, then you're just asking him to hang 35 on you...I've talked to the NBA people. They're still doing their homework, asking about league and guys and I have no question telling them he's a must-see."

-La Salle coach Dr. John Giannini
"I'm telling you, it's like he was raised at big man camp. His footwork is just astounding, and that's how he gets those shots ... It's really special what he can do with the ball in his hands."

"(Andrew) Nicholson proved why he is one of the top players in the Atlantic 10. He scored 24 points despite the fact we double-teamed him every time he touched the ball on the block."

This kid is going to be our PF of the future. easily. Considering we have no real post players. he's going to get plenty alot of touches, and anyone who knows about this kid in college can tell you, he was basically the guy that was double teamed by opponents every game.

His 4 years in college gave him alot of time to refine his offensive arsenal and his post moves are fluid. I mean, he literally already has a better offensive repertoire then dwight, and he hasn't played a single nba game.

Hes got it all, great face up game (college #1 in overall jump-shot attempts, 2nd most efficient shooter at 1.09), he can drive, has the left hook and right hook shot on either side of the block, great use of pivot, fakes, up and unders, is great at the shimmy, and can do the dropstep layup easily. to top it off he isnt a bad free throw shooter and best of all, hes a smart passer out of the traps.

He will make dwight howards offensive game look boring to watch, god i wont miss watching him throw up those hook shots all game long.

Not trying to overhype, but this could is the real deal as our pf of the future, just ship davis out now.
