Is it just me or is Breen overly negative

Post#1 » by Workforce250 » Fri Nov 16, 2012 4:25 pm

He seems to be stuck on the old mindset of negativity on some players.
i.e.
finding fault with the Knicks players constantly irks me.

That's been the book on him for a long time. Most fans on these boards HATE him. He's like a reverse homer.

it's what makes him one of the best announcers in this league, to be honest.

He's not a homer like the guys in almost every other market, but he's objective. He truly cares about the team too and I know he badly wants to see the Knicks win a championship.

It seems to me he used to be more of a homer at first, but when he started doing national TV he changed completely. It can definitely be annoying, but thank gawd we got Clyde to cancel his ass out. #taped

Breen is absolutely a Knicks fan, but he's also a rep announcer for the entire NBA.

He gets alot of flack on here, but I like the guy, all the way from the wfan radio play calling days.

He's one of the best, plain and simple.

Being objective is one thing, but sometimes (not all the time, mind you, just once in a while) he goes out of his way to criticize. I hated it at first, then I got used to it because the team really was bad, but now he's back to annoying me on occasion now that the team is good again. Plus some of his catch phrases irk the hell outta me - "and just like that the lead is cut to..." or "you can sit on a guys head and they won't call a foul..."

I hate when he calls a shot a bad one or a good one...Clyde can do that...Clyde actually knows. Breen will say "bad shot" about a shot that was taken with 3 seconds left on the shot clock and few options for the shooter. I HATE that.

I have no problem with objective criticism. I do have a problem with Breen going out of his way to constantly critique certain players. Consistently mentioned how unselfish a player is playing (Melo, JR) is a backhanded compliment. It's like complimenting somebody every night for not being as stupid as you thought they were. Give it a rest. The more he harps on some of these misnomers, the more they become ingrained in truth. To me, that's as irresponsible as being a blatant homer.

Sure he can be harsh and actually exceeds his criticism on players, but he knows his basketball. But last night, I think he was the one who "WOOOed" loudly when the Knicks caught up in the last few minutes of the 4th.

People who hate Breen are crazy. Guy is an objective observer, and is the best PBP man in basketball. Only one close is Kevin Harlan.
