I remember when Philly traded Moses Malone for Jeff Ruland, who played like 4 games for the Sixers and could never come back from injuries.

this is almost enough to make me feel bad for the 76ers and their fans

if I didn't call it so early
and if they weren't so insufferable as people and fans

but I think Bynum plays for a paycheck on the best of days, like Kawame Brown but a lot better, and this is a major danger for Phily

if he doesn't come back but for 20 or so games this year but has a strong performance then wtf do they do with his contract this summer?

do they max him or let him walk?

tough call

at least for Phily their doctors are in the best position to determine his actual health going forward

The thing going on with Bynums knee sounds like mine. I had miniscus surgery last year. But once they got in they realized I had a torn miniscus + a fractured knee. I didnt bounce back like predicted. Instead of more activity helping it actually hurt my rehab. I got knee drain and injections but they were only temporary fixes. I have certain highs where I feel like im heading to 100% and then click im back to hurt with setbacks. its a big cycle.

Bynum apparently sustained this "setback" while bowling.

Andrew Bynum hurt while bowling
Updated: November 18, 2012, 12:00 AM ET
By Brian Windhorst and Chris Broussard | ESPN.com

The Philadelphia 76ers fear All-Star center Andrew Bynum might have done additional damage to his knees while bowling, according to sources close to the situation.

Multiple sources told ESPN on Saturday that Bynum suffered an unspecified injury this month while bowling. On Friday, Bynum revealed that -- on top of the issues with his right knee that could keep him sidelined until January -- he also had suffered a "setback" with his left knee.

"I had a little bit of a setback, and we're just working through some issues with the right knee," Bynum said before the Sixers beat the Utah Jazz on Friday night. "I kind of have a mirror thing going on with my left knee. I don't know what's going on, but the doctors are saying pretty much that it's a weakened cartilage state."

There are several activities that are prohibited in standard NBA player contracts, but bowling is not one of them. Bynum is known to enjoy bowling.

Multiple calls to Bynum's agent, David Lee, were not returned.

Bynum, yet to play or practice with the team, was acquired in the blockbuster four-team trade in August that also sent Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

In September, Bynum went to Germany to receive Orthokine therapy injections in both knees. In October, he received preventative lubricating injections. The reason those procedures were done so close to the season, the team said, was to maximize their effects. At some point, however, Bynum developed a bone bruise that has sidetracked his rehabilitation and recovery.

The Sixers have pushed back Bynum's hoped return date three different times and have released a series of detailed statements on the matter. But before Bynum's comments, there never was any mention of left knee pain or weakened cartilage.

"I've just got to wait for the cartilage to get stronger, and that's pretty much what's going on," Bynum said. "The pain is about the same, but there is swelling in both knees that we have under control. It's the same spot, bone bruise on both sides."

Do you have any cartilage left in your knees or are you bone on bone?

I feel bad for him but I have no sympathy for Philadelphians. By far the most disgusting people in America eclipsing even Bostonians.

he hurt himself bowling ? nah. he had a problem they didn't detect and almost anything would have brought it to the surface eventually. blaming bowling is silly.

Idiots.

The preseason Philly love was almost as kneejerk ridiculous as the preseason Brooklyn love.

Brooklyn is 5-2.

yeah but they've only beaten one good team so far (boston). don't get me wrong they're a playoff team. they're beating the teams they're supposed to.

The body can only take so much damage. Dont know if he's done but its fare to ask. My question is this. Do you really give this guy a big long term contract if you philly? Or take the cap space and move on? Its also more than health with this kid.

yeah i said this in another thread. they got to think long and hard about this. bigs are always overpaid but he could cripple your franchise. he's never shown that he can be the man or that he can stay healthy.

At least iggy could play. They didnt want his deal. If they thought that was bad 80-100 mil for this kid could kill that franchise for a very long time.

If it was me I would check on some s/t options. If nothing comes up I would seriously consider letting him walk. To be honest. I suspect he could be doing more for himself and his health than he is.

I think they're just happy to be rid of Iguodala's contract. At least now they can evaluate Bynum with all his health issues and determine if he's worth a long-term investment, if not, they can move on with what they have.

With what they have? You mean a bunch of overrated young role player who everyone in Philly is hoping will "develop".

Just like how we were two years ago.

With cap space and moveable assets. What do you think they'd prefer: A .500 team with cap space and moveable assets or a .500 team with bad contracts and no cap space.

They're clearly in rebuild mode while trying to compete. Amnestied Brand, traded Iggy. All good moves.
