Re: Front-runner for Most Improved Player?
Some people are confusing the "most improved player" with players who are seeing a rise in their raw numbers because of more minutes on a worse team.
So far I'd go with Batum. He's playing the way I've been waiting for him to play for a couple of years now. He surprised me with his all around offensive game when I saw a few of his Euroleague games last year during the lockout, seeing that version of Batum so far this year. Finally playing with aggression on both ends. Hope he keeps it up.

Last year I was critical of DeAndre, he wasn't giving the Clippers what his contract suggests. So far this year he has been much better. I'm not sure of his numbers, but his ability, particularly in the post, is way beyond last year.

Re: Front-runner for Most Improved Player?
I think Asik is the frontrunner. Harden maybe, but he was always considered to be very good. Asik? Not so much. Many people questioned his contract when he first received it.
And for those of you questioning whether or not he actually improved, take a look at his FT% increase. A jump from 40% to 70%+ in unreal, especially for a big man. He's also shown confidence in making decisive offensive moves, and his rebounding is exceeding/living up to expectations, depending on who you ask. But going from 3.5 points to 10+ per game is incredible for a guy that was labelled as a offensive dud.

Regardless of how much Jordan has improved on the court, unless his stats pick up he isn't going to make a run for MIP.
I mean, he went from 7 points and 8 boards to 10 points and 7 boards a game.......not MIP material.
It's going to Harden or Batum......Varejo should also be atop the race.

Do you think Tracy McGrady shouldn't have won the award in 2001 then? I mean McGrady was probably not that much different in his last year in Toronto than as he was in his first year in Orlando.
He was just put in a better situation and in a situation where he was asked to do more.

Vucevic and E'Twaun Moore saw big improvements statistic wise from their rookie seasons but I don't know if they'll keep the current pace(especially Moore) so I didn't add them
Jordan and Ibaka score more(3 ppg Jordan ,5 ppg Ibaka),but are actually rebounding less and blocking shots at a similar rate as last year.
Mayo has a big improvement statistic wise from last year, but he had a big rookie season and I don't consider him necessarily most improved..he had it in him
Meanwhile, all the players I listed above are having by far, their best season, production wise
JR Smith says hi
Putting up career highs in every category except offensive rebounding.
Pts, Rebs, Assists, Steals, Blocks, Fewest TO's cept for his 2nd season - 18 MPG and best shooting percentages too. 3 pointers attempted is way down off his career highs too.

Yeah, if JR Smith continues to shoot 64% on 3-pointers, he's pretty golden

I don't think Harden should be considered for this. He has improved, he's been unleashed.

Re: Front-runner for Most Improved Player?
Not Harden because he hasn't improved; he was and still is a great player. He's just getting more minutes as a starter.
I'd say Omer Asik is the most improved player. Just looking at his FT%, he jumped from 50% to 73%. That's insane, along with his rebounding and slightly improved offense.

Re: Front-runner for Most Improved Player?
Definitely Omer Asik. He is also shooting 73% FTs this year. For a guy who barely shot 50% his first two seasons, now THAT is improvement.

Always felt that this award should not really go to 2nd/3rd year guys because you expect improvement.
Ironically though I go Asik.

I have Asik, Reddick and Mayo on my fantasy team, made out nice. I think it's between those three and Harden so far.
C'mon, you apes! You wanna live forever?

Demar Derpzan . The guy is playing like a brand new player. You can really see he went from a boy to a man.

My vote goes to Redick... the dude went from being a one-dimensional shooter to a ballhandler that can score and make plays for his teammates... Asik,DeRozan, and Batum are also deserving of the award. Players like Mayo and Harden are just getting more opportunities to put up stats.

Re: Front-runner for Most Improved Player?
Advanced stats would say Harden is actually worse only shooting more as a number 1 option. But not nearly as efficiently.
I would say Mayo or Batum. Mayo was thought for dead. Was on the verge of bust status. Suddenly people are thinking maybe if Dirk comes back with the way he has played they can do something.

Re: Front-runner for Most Improved Player?
Asik winning would be a joke. You increase his minutes by 150% and his stats go up 150%? So he's producing nearly the exact same on a minute to minute basis? Sounds like he's the same player and the Rockets should be given credit for giving him a bigger role.
