I don't think saying DWilliams is a bench scrub is at this point at all an inaccurate statement. He can't even get himself off the bench. He's being significantly out played by Dante Cunningham. That said, if you look at the trade that I made, Philly down-grades from a good player in Young to Williams, because they upgrade from Hawes to Pekovic.
As to why not just leave him out... well you need to match 19M (or close) in salary. So... you need to send out some other players that teams are going to be willing to take in the deal. Barea has a lot of years left on his deal, so he's not ideal, Ridnour is a decent back up PG... but if Nash is back LAL would have 3 other back up point guards... I don't think Williams has negative trade, yet, as I think the promise of potential still makes him pull neutral with the 4M+ he's making to do nothing now. However, as that contract escalates, if his performance doesn't, then yeah he'll go from 'meh' to 'bleh'
