Fox: Lakers center Howard tells critics to relax

Dwight Howard has a message for anybody criticizing him.

Settle down.

The Lakers center wanted to remind everybody he was still not 100 percent.

"I wasn't even supposed to be playing until January and I'm playing now. What do you expect?" he said after the Lakers' shoot-around Thursday afternoon. They play the New York Knicks tonight.

Howard has been criticized because of his inaccurate free-throw shooting and also for some subpar games on offense, most recently a 3-for-9 shooting effort Tuesday in the Lakers' 100-94 loss to Cleveland.

Excuses... who cares when he was supposed to be back... he was cleared to play two months before the target date, so obviously the original diagnosis was exaggerated. And if he rushed coming back, then he's an idiot because he's probably doing his back more harm than good.

Didn't Dwight learn anything from last year? Keep your mouth shut before you play the Knicks on TNT.

So he's blaming his expectedly poor crunch time free throw shooting on the injury?

Dwight would do well to be one of those guys who just doesn't talk to the media.. ever.

OT: How goofy does he look in that get-up? What a clown.

I have a feeling that when it's all said and done, Dwight's best, most productive years will have been with the Magic.

Yup. I also feel he's realizing the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

No one forced him to come back early. There wasn't even a time table created yet for his return.

Come on you guys. He would have had 4 championships here in Orlando by now if it wasn't for his teammates, the coach, the GM, management, and the refs. Surely he will win dozens in LA where the only problem is his back, the doctors, and the trainers who made him play before he was ready.

Remember when he thought the Orlando media was hard on him? they were easy on the clown
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

I've cut Dwight particularly more slack than most people, but he's really reaching a point where it will be hard for him to come back. He's going to tarnish his reputation for good if he doesn't pull his head in and just play ball.

I reckon that this summer he's either gonna sign with Dallas, or he's gonna make LA trade Kobe before he agrees to extend.

I agree with this too.

What I would be worried about if I was in the Howard camp is how fragile mentally he is becoming.

If Dwight was healthy enough to shoot 3 pointers, then he should be healthy enough to shoot FT's.

Dwight is in danger of becoming Shawn Kemp.

He looks bigger, and slower than ever. I think we did see his best years here. Good riddance.

Does Howard only open his mouth to change feet?

^ aparently.

Winning goes a long way and Steve Nash can help the Lakers win games. Thats the only way I see them having a good season. I sincerely hope Dwight's back is going to be ok...but that is no guarantee. I don't really have a feel for the Lakers yet this year only because i can't believe they could be this bad with Kobe and even 80% of Dwight on the floor.

ESPN will start to get pissed soon. They are supposed to be making money on this.
