Lakers / Magic / Pacers

Post#1 » by Kupchak9 » Sat Dec 15, 2012 7:59 am

LAL out: Pau MWP Blake JHill
LAL in: Afflalo West Hedo Harrington

LA gets a couple of defensive-minded guys that can hit jumpers, better fit for their system, given that they have to take on some deadweight.

ORL out: Afflalo Hedo Harrington
ORL in: MWP Hansbrough JHill IND 1st

The Magic are in need of a serious revamp before they enter a treadmill stage. While they do lose one of
their best players, they unload roughly 20 mil of deadweight.

IND out: West Hansbrough Augustin 1st
IND in: Pau Blake

The Pacers put Pau in a position where he can thrive, while he may not be playing at the 5, he's always been able to maximize the offensive abilities of center's he's played with (Bynum, Howard). Hes really a guy that can get Hibbert through this sluggish start.

I like it for the Lakers. Not because of West but because of Afflalo. Too good for the Lakers to be honest.

Absolutely not from the Magic. Harrington and Hedo can be cut next year for half their prices. A late Indy 1st is not nearly enough compensation for something like this.

The Magic don't need to be [you-know-what]-ed again by the Lakers.

Pacers can't afford to move West he's just too much of a leader and role model to be traded. I'd love Pau though. I wouldn't even laugh at a deal that included a healthy Granger.

Lakers can have Afflalo if they can land the Magic a top pick in the draft. Magic willing to absorb semi-bad contract. Not going to get screwed again by the Lakers. Good luck.

LA trades Pau Gasol, Devin Ebanks
Receives: Arron Afflalo, Emeka Okafor, WAS 2015 Protected #1 Pick

WAS trades: Trevor Ariza, Emeka Okafor, Unprotected 2013 Pick, 2015 Protected #1 Pick
WAS receives: Pau Gasol, Devin Ebanks

ORL trades: Arron Afflalo
Receives: WAS 2013 Pick, Trevor Ariza

Hoopshype has Hedo with a player option next year and Harrington with 2 more fully guaranteed years of salary. I dont see how they can be cut for half prices?

Harrington's next 2 years are only half guaranteed. Hedo can be cut for $6mil. So that is the half price

yes but as a GM thats already amnestied 60 million plus dollars just to get rid of a player (Arenas) wouldn't it look bad to keep giving away millions just to cut players.

Different GM. You're thinking Otis Smith. He was canned.

A) Not the same GM. Otis Smith no longer works for the Magic. And Rich Devos is more than happy to make financial concessions for the benefit of his team. ORL has it really nice in that regard.
B) Harrington is half guaranteed in the sense that roughly 50% of his contract is performance based after this season. The team wouldn't have to cut him to save money (or at least that is my impression).

way too good for the lakers as usuall, the need to realize Gasol is not going to net that value back with age, contract and recent injuries that are an a issue

I was under the assumption that Harrington and Turk were bad contracts.

Harrington is a solid player whose contract is 50% incentive based after this season. Turkoglu has a 50% buyout after this season as well, making it such that a team could trade for him and then waive him for more than $6,000,000 in savings. It's not like either contract is worth a ton on the trade market, but both are potentially useful pieces if utilized correctly by whoever acquires them.

So are Artest and Blake's contracts though. Agree with others, simply too good for the Lakers. Other teams are giving up too much value.

As for the Pacers, I don't think we're interested in trading West, even though Gasol would seem to be an upgrade (on paper anyway). Plus Gasol makes too much for a cost-conscious small market team like the Pacers.

and West's leadership is too important to give up.
