I like Goodwin. A lot. Hit a 3 just now. And follows that up, by setting Harrow up for a 3 off a nice hesitation dribble.

Goodwin finally running the team well and looking for open shooters instead of forcing it. Each half looks like a completely separate game for him.

Goodwin didn't use his left hand there though.

Goodwin! 4 pt play opportunity.

EDIT: Bad play by Goodwin there. Threw the ball away after a dirty crossover.

Finishes with 22 pts 6 rebs 2 asts on 8-15 FGs, 3-5 3pt FGs

lol yeah that was a dirty inside-out dribble

Well, it was sloppy but it worked. Wound it back. Almost lost it before he picked up but didn't and he finished with his right instead of left - did this a few times. Tyreke Evans always does that, too. Guess Cal doesn't have a problem with it.

Great to see Goodwin turn it up. Made some mistakes, but they only mattered because he got them back into the game. Whatever, freshman in December. Good thing he didn't go home when I told him to (he just got yanked).

Well that, and he has a weak left hand dribble. I remember watching one of his better games against Duke last month while he showed a very explosive first step that's unguaradable it's mostly on straight line drives with a lack of dribble moves. He doesn't have much of a change of direction in his game along with those stutter steps and stride stops to finish at the goal line. A good ball-handler should not be struggling this much against the press.

When he gets double teamed or trapped, he tends to panic. While he does not drive exclusively left often, I have seen him go to it. He has a very nice spin move in the lane as well and he also employs a nice crossover on his drive. He is not purely a straight line slasher, as his crossover allows him to change direction. His hesitation moves are not all there, but he changes pace if he is attacking from the top of the key, which is a start. He also has a Euro step in his game.

I'm mostly interested in that first step and athleticism with Goodwin. I don't know much about him, tbh, but I've watched a few games where he effortlessly gets by two defenders and just blows the lay-in. Anyone drafting him would have to believe in his work ethic. Kind of reminds me of Bledsoe's year at UK.

I've said this before, but Archie Goodwin is the equivalent of a toolsy prospect in baseball. That's kind of the way I think of him. He's got tremendous upside, and is a good kid from what I gather.

Yeah, I think if Goodwin would trust his left hand more and not think nearly as much how he's going to try and break the press he may not panic as much like he did today and turn the ball over. Once he tightens up that left hand of his he'll be an even more dangerous player in transition and in the half-court once he can learn to play at that lightning quick speed. What I'll say is that his half-spin is very good. It's very, very hard to take off of one foot immediately after gathering the ball and going straight up which he does very well and converts those difficult layups. Too many times players would just stop when they make that half-spin and get stopped in their tracks not being able to elevate as high as they can when they have zero momentum and allowing the defense to recover. The crossover still needs some work. He got picked rather easily today when he tried to do it.

I don't know about the change of pace. I've seen him way too many times running into a brick wall getting whistled for the charge. The change of pace I'm looking for is the ability to play from high-to-low or low-to-high and fast and slow being able to change gears on the fly with those stutter steps and stop-and-go dribbles. This is what I meant by when he plays out-of-control.

Yeah, I'm saying that he only uses the stop and go at the top of the key. And it isn't very often either. Then again, most players with adequate first steps are capable of dribbling at an ordinary speed and then shifting gears at the top of the key.

I think that your expectations are just high if you watch a lot of NBA basketball. There are only a handful of guys at the college level who have the ability to stop and go on a dime. And Goodwin is only a freshman after all.

On one hand I hope we land 9th or 10th just to stick it to OKC and give them a bad pick in a weak draft. On the other hand I'm still sort of high on Myck Kabongo, small body and all, and he looks like he can be attained with a non lotto pick.

Michael Carter-Williams might be the best PG in the nation. On pace for a triple-double this game.

. I feel like he has a Jason Kidd type game to him not a very good shooter but can basically do everything else well and has some elite size. Kidd also turned himself I to a very good shooter so carter-Williams could be a very interesting player especially since we will be losing Calderon and looking for a backup for the future. I'm not exactly sure how his defence and athleticism are though,

I'm liking what I'm seeing from Trey Burke and we're going to need a PG since we lose Calderon this year and it'd be best to cash out on Lowry this year as well at the draft. Burke, Val, Ross and Ed is a pretty good core.

Hell yeah! Lol Lowry to Utah for picks and draft Burke. Then package Calderon + Bargs/DeRozan + (pick/Ed) for Cousins + Salmons + (Evans)!

Burke
Evans/Ross
Wiggins/Parker
Cousins
Val
