Sixers waive PG Maalik Wayns

Post#1 » by HarthorneWingo » Mon Jan 7, 2013 8:14 pm

Maybe he could be our 3rd string PG, as insurance, until Ray gets back. I watched him in the preseason and thought he looked real good. He's a pass first PG.

Any thoughts?

Who is getting waived to sign him? Face it, this is the 15-man roster the Knicks are going to war with this season, for better or worse.

Felton (and Shump) will be back in the lineup soon so we don't really need a PG right now but...where is that Tony Taylor, Jr. cat that NYK is very high on AND has on their D-League team for a hot minute? OKC was high on him as recent as a few months ago but I haven't heard anything about him lately.

James White posterizes Maalik Wayns with his nuts on his face, says "Knickstape" and left the crime scene before the Knicks front office comes roaring in with their siren and took a good luck at Wayns.

Well I guess we can say that Maalik Waynes... can't play ball.

Note waiving White, he's representing us at All-Star weekend. Melo and Pablo might be the only ones

Yeah I'd agree on White but just on the sense he doesn't really fit a role with Knicks. I think he can really play. On NBA ability alone I'd cut Copeland over him but Copeland fills more of a role on this team.

expendable, yes.

but isn't his contract guaranteed?

don't get me wrong, i don't think money is a factor when it comes to the knicks. but isn't that true?

His money is fully guaranteed just like Balkmans was when we dropped him for JR.

yeah no

Copeland has been great

he has a long way to go on D and rebounding but hes really shined every time weve gone to him. and hes a rookie

White has some d and some hops but we can improve his position

If the Knicks are going to cut White or Copeland to add a PG they might as well just sign Delonte West already. Or at least cut Kurt Thomas and sign the Birdman...to make me happy.

I'm a Villanova alum and watched Wayns play quite a bit. He definitely has talent but I'm not sure he can ultimately cut it at this level, at least not right now. I don't think we should bother.

Id cut White for West and Thomas for Birdman in a sec

we need perimeter D, Shot blocking and rebounding

seems like a good fit

Lakers waived Darius Johnson-Odom.

I remember some mock drafts had us selecting him rather then Papanikolaou.

Woodson so far has a good track record with knuckleheads (Swish, Crawful). I wouldn't mind West on this team at all.

On the defensive side of the ball, Johnson-Odom gives good effort on this side of the ball and has the upper and lower body strength to defend strong NBA shooting guards. His average size, however, is an issue for someone who is at his best off the ball.

If Johnson-Odom were 6'5” there would be no questions about his ability to contribute at the next level. His ability to make shots from the perimeter and create off the dribble are coveted skills, especially considering his winning pedigree and the intensity he brings on the defensive end.

Johnson-Odom's size may give some teams room for pause, but fortunately for him there is a long list of undersized shooting guards currently seeing extensive playing time in the NBA today. As much as any prospect, the personnel around Darius Johnson-Odom could play a hand in whether a team is able to find a role he could be effective in at the next level.
