How do you feel about the Raptors pursuing Rudy Gay?

Yes! Do it. He'd be our best wing by a mile.

That's true, but unless we're contender's , i don't care because our roster isn't talented enough with gay and that's not a knock on him! we're just not in a position to be adding high priced players to a mediocre roster at this point.

Yeah if we get Rudy we have to add more

If the goal is "be a decent playoff team":

Lowry
Ross
Gay
Milsap
Val

Thats a decent team, I don't like the idea though

How about now?

Fapworthy.

It's more or less not happening if we are to keep Lowry, DD, and Val.
Here's taking a shot at it though:

TO RAPTORS:
Paul Millsap
Raja Bell

TO JAZZ:
Andrea Bargnani
Terrence Ross

TO RAPTORS:
Rudy Gay
Jared Bayless
Hamid Haddadi
Josh Selby

TO GRIZZLIES:
Jose Calderon
Linas Kleiza
Alan Anderson
Quincy Acy
2nd Rd Pick 2014 (SAC) via Toronto

LOWRY / Lucas / Selby
DEROZAN / Bayless / Bell
GAY / Fields / Pietrus
MILLSAP / Davis / Johnson
VALANCIUNAS / Gray / Haddadi

We wouldn't, much like Memphis wouldn't dump Gay on us for Calderon and scraps even if it did get them under the cap. Also, isn't Millsap 6'7/6'8?

The chances of drafting Wiggins is 25% at best and even then it doesn't eliminate the possibility of still being a treadmill team in the future and Wiggins walking out of TOR in 5 years.

25% at potential greatness seems awesome, considering you can reset on failure and in contrast with the 0% we have been practicing.

Not to mention COMPLETELY ignoring the fact that 2014 is looking to be a stacked draft with at least 2 franchise players.

But yeah lets keep this treadmill going, it's worked well so far right....guys?

25% at best. It's not like tanking until the ping pong ball bounce in your favor is a viable long term strategy. Just look at SAC; no sign of progress after years of drafting in the top 5.

The reality is this team's floor is probably 5th worst at the moment. Besides, after watching "franchise" players like Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James, Kevin Garnett, Deron Williams etc leave their teams, do you honestly think that simply drafting a blue chip prospect is progress? Especially under this FO?

If we can ship DD in a deal for Gay I think that would be the right move.

Gay is better player, but vastly overpaid. That being said if we can package off a Fields or Kleiza in the deal, I say we do it.

This also helps us allow room for someone like Ross to step into a starting role, which although I don't think he is quite there, he should be ready by the end of the season.

I don't get why we're trying to lowball them with Ed Davis and Calderon. They're just going to go with the Phoenix trade while we get stuck with nothing. If BC could put his ego aside and throw in Bargs we'd have a serious offer for them.

Eric Gordon didn't stop NOH from getting the 1st pick, and he isn't stopping them from getting a top 5 draft pick this year
Neither did Brandon Roy
or Chris Bosh

Keep an open mind; TOR can still collect a talent like Gay and compete in the Wiggins/Parker sweepstakes; just need to weed out mediocre players like DD, Calderon, Bargs, etc who may never be as good as Gay (funny as that sounds) and streamline the team.

It'd have to be some sort of variation on the TOR/DEN/MEM trade scenario, which was:

DEN in: Andrea + Anderson, DEN out: Chandler + Mozgov
MEM in: Chandler + Jose, MEM out: Gay (+ maybe Bayless)
TOR in: Gay + Mozgov (+ maybe Bayless), TOR out: Andrea + Jose + Anderson

Utah needs a SG, so Ross would undoubtedly be of interest: cheap, young and good potential. Would we do it though?

The above lineup is pretty good and is definitely a win-now team, apart from Jonas. That's putting a lot of pressure on him, which frankly I don't think he can handle right now. He's not ready to play NBA playoff ball and we'd be disappointed with the results. On the other hand, if we're confident he can produce at a starting center level next year, then we'd have to be confident we could re-sign Milsap, and we'd have to get approval from ownership to not worry about going over the luxury cap down the road.

That's a team with 3 borderline All-star level guys in Lowry, Gay and Milsap in their prime (26-27 years old), plus 2 very young guys with (the dreaded word) potential. It isn't the worst way to go, as rebuilding thru the draft is a total crap shoot and you're never remotely confident of first, getting into a position to draft a potential star and second, picking a guy who ends up being better than Lowry and Gay and Milsap.
